Yep I was there but young farmerclare and old henarer were really keen to do the report this week..
This weeks sedgemoor report is being written/ posted by fellow TFF's @farmerclare and @Henarar.
In their own time. Zummerzet time.
Maybe they're busy editing the first draft, putting a highly-polished sheen on their wordcraft?
Is there a slow handclap emoji??
We didn't see anything sold bar the suck cows and they were killing priceYep I was there but young farmerclare and old henarer were really keen to do the report this week..
Numbers of lambs have dropped last week in northern marts. Sometimes it’s less lambs coming forward off grass but I believe it’s numbers tightening. How much is exported atm out of interest? Are there less lambs to be sold this season or are many still on the farms they were born? Store lambs are a good price yet most markets in this area have seen lower numbers. Finished lambs numbers have also been lower so far and may explain the price rise we are seeing at the moment. Ashford finished lambs the last 3 weeks have seen exceptionally small entries. However the store sale on Friday was on fire.
I see Newark yesterday was over £1.80 for SQQ lambs so these deadweight prices getting close to £4.00 will be in line. All of this is despite the pound continuing to be very strong and nothing at all to do with the "B" word but just old fashioned supply and demand.
Fair few people lambed later this year after having a terrible time early lambing in the driving snow the year before and spending fortunes on feed .Are there less lambs to be sold this season or are many still on the farms they were born? Drove past the site a few months back and "for sale " sign was still up. But will ask about.I might be slow on this and could be in another thread. But I heard today pickstocks were re-opening a slaughter house in Ashby de-la zouch to kill a lot of ewes/lambs to go into Saudi. If true some much needed good news
Record numbers of lambs were sold through our local mart in August and September because everyone wanted them away before Brexit plus the trade was sound so every reason to shift them . Numbers drying up now and a lot of buyers coming out for store lambs ,those who put off buying until Brexit was sorted!! A lot more lambs have been killed up here than normal so I would think the price can only go one way for the rest of the season. I think it should also help that we have the cheapest lamb in the world .Are there less lambs to be sold this season or are many still on the farms they were born? Lambs have not been born either , the dry Summer last year would have seen less eggs in the ewes. Hereford Store lamb sale numbers are not as many as last year. The next month will see if they are out there to come but i do not think soRecord numbers of lambs were sold through our local mart in August and September because everyone wanted them away before Brexit plus the trade was sound so every reason to shift them . Good.Sheep scanners reckon numbers of ewes on farms go down every year
I think they are a better guide for numbers compared to other sourcesGood.
