Any talk of the dead rising next week?

Its already ahead of live for evrtything but the very best export type lambs so cant see it rising till auctions catch up a bit but lets hope..if there short of lambs it will likely lift.

Lambs are a good trade at the mo is it really because less are being sold dead weight if so it’s got to be a good argument that we should all sell at the mart all the time my lambs are up at least a tenner if not more.

Saw plenty of 32kg and 33kg hill lambs making£61 to £65.same on the dead would be 13.5-£52.65.10quid a difference on smalls

Yeah the small lambs will make more live because some of them will be being bought for growing on. The 40 kg + mule and mid range texel lambs will be making a touch more deadweight this week, not a lot more, but a bit.....i was in an auction and thought they were a flying trade,which they were, the best mules were 188 ppkg, mine dead were 192 ppkg.

Took a mix load of big mules today and hill lambs but didnt send any below 36kg.havent taken any fat lambs on the live for 2years but will take my small cull ewe lambs etc on the live

Neighbour took some in on Sunday night and was on 4:15. You northerners must be having a little more

You must have a very kind abattoir to get 42kg to come to 20kg dead. Everywhere I go it would be 19 !!

42kg on market weights will easily do 20kg if they are well bred and finished.

Lamb finisher blend. Any good? What should I ask for in it? I was thinking 40% barley 35% SBP 20% rape meal (may swap to soya depending on price) 2.5% molasses and 2.5% minerals. They want to roll barley but I want it whole - anyone do this?. How ‘dry’ will it be and how high can I go with the molasses before it goes claggy?

That was my thinking. I have a supply of brewers grains which I could use for the protein but lambs can be a bit fussy on them. How much molasses is in coarse ration as a guide?

Excellent trade today!!

I think £107 is my highest price for lambs, as I don't sell many in the new year, just a few runts. A bit disappointed with the first pen of female lambs, but I was at the end of the sale and prices dropped for them by then, but musn't grumble.... . The last pen were pretty poor things so sold well.
Happy to sell cattle and lambs live!

Only if they are home kill, that shows you how much the slaughter houses deduct off our lambs!
