I’m more shocked you have the grass to want some more sheep.

If someone offered me some at £10 per life I would turn them down at present. Looks like I am going to be chasing grass all summer.

If they are nice sheep that you actually want £60 per life. If not £45 per life as that leaves you with some actual profit for buying them and summering them - you will have a ewe worth £60-80 to kill (hopefully) and store lambs worth 50-60 a piece (hopefully).

Some will say I am too cheap but there is rarely profit in bought couples.

Wouldn’t fancy selling at £45 a life they are young ewes. Would think the ewes Alone would of made that sold in the autumn or a few months ago in lamb, the work has been done now, just got to watch them grow, and pick up the odd dead one?

Just shearing, foot bathing, worming sorting, moving, fencing, watering......

Work is never done with sheep.

I stand by my post, I do know where you are coming from and if He wants the ewes to keep - £60 per life for commercials is ok.

Remember the seller has no commission, Haulage, hassle, wasted day at the mart on a private sale which is worth £5.00 per life to the seller.

Yes.

They were hellish dear, well up on last week im told, no end of 12 month feeding steers around £870/900, didn't take much of an animal to hit £1000 head.

Stirks, nearly all dairy bred, a few pens of suckler heifers that were serious money at £650/700 head, no end of plain char steers around the 350 kilo mark easily making £675/700 head, small dairy bred heifers up/down the £500 mark, trade well up on the week and some cattle would be £150/200 head up on 2 months ago.

Numbers of stirks are tight everywhere currently, I don't get it with this trade, they are better sold sooner rather than later because I cant see this trade holding in 2 months time.

Calves I was told were serious money, £200 wouldn't get you very much today!
that sounds positive then

“Aberdeen and Northern Marts held their biggest store sale of the season to date when they sold 2,051 cattle at Thainstone on Friday 1st of May. Once again, it was the quality bred yearling stirks that created the biggest premium selling readily to a full ringside of bidders. Stronger cattle were a plainer show but despite this still realised decent returns especially given the continually depressed finished price.”

Trade on the good quality grazing stores is off the clock. Some massive store sales coming up it will be interesting to see what the trade is on 2nd and 3rd quality. If trade isnt good in May we might as well pack up.
