The dead live debate is not clear cut, there are benefits to both and regional divides are a major factor. The West Country can only dream of the live prices “up North” despite the “sell live to thrive” voice piece being from the SW. There will be plenty of cattle stood in adjoining pens today in Frome that will be stood in adjoining pens tomorrow at an abattoir despite being knocked down to different buyers, and many of them weighed in. Personally wouldn’t sell any finished cattle through the “fat ring” down here, they would go through Sedge store ring as strong stores if at all.
No its certainly not clear cut,we have been deadweight for years now after supporting local markets until they all closed to cattle (Bideford,South Molton and Barnstaple). On the whole I am pleased with the results and TBH I don't think I would have the time to haul cattle to Sedgemoor to sell fat,i know I could use a haulier but the deductions from selling live already equal deadweight and that includes haulage up north.I did seriously consider it a couple months ago when they were screwing us down, but I don't think it would have stacked up even then.

Your a lucky man then hope it stays that way with the virus, but I’m ok Jack is not a great reason to celebrate
Lambs £ 2.40 Live weight cattle 3.70 deadweight ?

At least 20,000 people will die early in the next 12 months due to delayed/ very late diagnosis of cancer alone, let alone all the early deaths from other illnesses like heart failure etc which are put at 150,000 for the next 12 months alone as they cannot get treatment on the NHS as they have all but shut down for anything other than corvid 19 illness, I don't think that is anything to be happy about, the problem is that people who push for the lockdown to carry on in a strict format don't seem to care about all these early/extra deaths!

And to keep it on topic for this thread then farming is not and will not escape the economic depression coming with wool for example already being worthless and producers wont get paid for at least a year for this years cut, don't think the same cannot happen to the lamb/beef price in 18/24 months time when millions are out of a job and have very little or no government support to live day to day.

People that are already ill have been shielding from Covid. If they catch it going for treatment then they are potentially very ill indeed.

Illness treatments has continued for people who cannot wait.

Tens of thousands of people have NOT had treatment/ diagnosis since the lockdown started in March!

The NHS cancelled over 3 million routine operations alone!

To keep it on the thread topic, the local maccy d opened today, people queued for 2 hours in their cars to get their fix.

It's only South Molton that isn't like Richard III was. Biddi and Barnstaple markets are under car parks, now :(

Sedgemoor is a slog to haul to. Taunton was plenty far enough.
