Hereford Market - Wednesday August 26th:

On a week where deadweight quotations took 20p/kg out of the price, the liveweight system bangs 20p/kg into it! It is quite clear, support the liveweight or get on your knees! An SQQ today of 213p/kg , however the 45-52kg averaged a phenomenal 221.7p/kg which is terrific for the last week in August. Those very heavy lambs a superb trade with a pen of 58kg soaring to £124/head. All weights in serious demand, the only pity about it is that 2000 lambs could have been sold with ease. Those little lambs up to 34kg were a serious dap especially if meat, averaging 216p/kg. A top price of 236p/kg for a pen of 50kg that soared to £118. Top 20 prices all over 223p/kg.
thats some trade for late august , god knows where it goes from here , heavies must be catering trade , next 6 weeks will be critical as all the hill lambs come down . I know a few lowland breeders holding on to lambs for a bit rather than sell store may look at finishing at these prices , weather been good for forage crops , so sooner or later someone is going to have to buy some lambs , assuming a deal numbers going to be tight next easter for sure .

These exemptions are very specific. I have checked with different sources, and in France, for example, there are no exemptions to wearing a face covering at all. Not even for physical health matters.

On a technicality, I'm exempt in England, but have managed to learn to cope with a face covering, so I use one. If I should happen to be asymptomatic thus shedding virus, I owe it to others to wear a face covering to protect them.

1 we are NOT in France so their rules do NOT apply in the UK!

2 : In the UK the rules clearly state that if you are unable to wear a mask for health/ mental health reasons you are exempt, anyone that is exempt do NOT have to give the reasons why they are exempt to anyone be that shop keepers/ bus drivers etc etc.

3 : Just because you are able to wear a mask does not mean that everyone else can and just because someone may look healthy they may well not be and have a very valid reason why they cannot wear a mask!

4 : You are quite clearly very scared of catching the virus, I have genuine sympathy for people like yourself but you cannot expect everyone else to hide away/ be forced to wear masks etc for the rest of their lives because you are scared, the harsh truth is the virus will always be with us, if at some point they get a vaccine it wont be 100% effective and wont be given to young people etc, it will only be given to people at risk like the flu jab, 2 weeks ago from memory about 190 death's were put down to the virus, yet just under 900 deaths for the same week were put down to summer flu etc...

5 : Given how scared you are I strongly suggest you use the drop and go policy run by the livestock markets for your sheep and get someone else to buy cattle on your behalf.

What on earth is this to do with a price tracking thread?

Non...may be the year to do less numbers...harder winter afoot as well according to weatherweb...could work for very little

Around here all the trees are turning fast into their autumn colours, seems a month early to me, another winter like 63 around the corner?

I have been on a long drive today, I have not seen so much grass about at this time of year for many years, doesn't seem that many sheep about and certainly not that many store lambs to be seen, I cannot see them dropping in price and normally the next month is the cheapest time before dairy farmers start buying come Oct.

There seems to be a lot of stirk age store cattle about from what I saw today, these cattle are starting to look very weathered and are going backwards, time to put the feeders out even if you have a lot of grass.

You can only post what you see but cattle are thriving with the flush of grass around here , they have looked stale through lack of grass but are blooming now. I have never seen ground recover and grow so quick . Farmers are scaling back supplementary feeding , im more convinced of an indian summer than a 1963 winter tbh

Grass recovery around here is phenomenal, cattle are looking well especially after the couple of storms that have passed over.

He is very worried about going to livestock markets due to the virus so regardless of your views on the issue its very relevant to this thread!

My contact who was at market today said that staff were reminding everyone at signing in of mandatory face coverings for next week, so market staff are not going to presume exemptions.
My contact also saw a person attending ridicule another who was wearing a mask, and bully him into removing it out of embarrassment.

As I said before, it isn't me I am worried about. I have duty of care to others.

If people attending are not showing that they care about other people at market, then we will have no choice but to buy and sell direct. The auctioneers will not necessarily be involved.

They should have been telling everyone that face masks were mandatory today let alone next week!

Face masks will have already been mandatory for 3 weeks in livestock markets from this Friday.

No one should be bullied for wearing a mask just like no one should be bullied for not wearing one if they are genuinely exempt.

Market staff do not presume you are exempt, when you enter the market and when you are in the market if your not wearing a mask then I can tell you from experience that they stop you ( quite rightly ) and ask you to wear a mask, if you tell them your exempt that is fine but if you say your not exempt and don't want to wear one you will be told that if you don't wear one you will have to leave ( and I have seen and heard of this happening in livestock markets )

Best thing you can do is go to a livestock market yourself, best one would be a harvest market as given the massive backlog of field work if we do get a dry spell there wont be many farmers at market that week!

store lamb trade slightly easier at skipton, but im on 3rd draw so slightly more mixed lambs in got 68 but again ranging from prob 30 upto 36kg (weighed a few, prob 1 37 in there ), pretty happy with that for this time of year!

seem to have roughly dropped with fat price.

Grass growth as above has been amazing last few weeks, gonna keep rest to beef up a bit i think.

if everyone wants to talk about masks please do it via pm i come here to see prices...

[Moderator note

Clearly my post yesterday has been disregarded again

GUTH you’re usually one of the first to complain if things go off piste on this thread

All: please stick to price thread relevance otherwise the Mod team will be forced to take some action - which is very tedious and boring

Thank you]

No offence @JP1 but I did not bring up the issue of masks at livestock markets on this thread!

But its quite clear there has been people who have been putting false information up ref the enforcement of the rules ref Social distancing/ wearing masks etc at livestock markets and that could not be left uncorrected given the seriousness of the situation we are currently in!

Also ref the above post, quite clear that I had to reply to the post I did given the nonsense implied that the rules ref masks etc In France applied to the UK and UK livestock markets which they do not!

By all means pull people up for going off topic but please don't single out the odd poster like you clearly are doing above and apply the rules equally to everyone including the posters who bought up the issue of the SD/ masks issue at markets in the first place on this thread!!
