Is there any money in tupping ewe lambs.........?? All the feed they need & the work of lambing them, then you have the hassle of having to take one lamb off her if she has 2 to end up with a thin yearling that u really have to work on to get to the ram in proper condition in the autumn.....? Personally I think there's v little money in tupping lambs.........
Buy a dear lamb i admit, last year pre luck 110, this year 116. Invest in reseeds but with wet winters actually fed ewe lambs nothing!!! Bought 40 20k energy lick tubs and used 8 over 616 ewe lambs. Twins i sold at good money at 8 weeks old but normally i feed no extra but wean at 8 weeks. So no cost normally gains 105 lamb sales and ewe increase of 15. Singles last year gained me 35/40 on ewe and av 60 on lambs. With those twins av selling a fraction over a lamb per hogg. 105%. Generally over dads lifetime and mine over doing same system, the figures vary minutely, whatever costs, feed, purchase /sales etc, the difference in purchase of ewe lambs and selling off shearlings and purchase of following ewe lambs always means the same. The previos nett difference covers costs and losses, sales of lambs the profit. Over 50 years this has varied very little looking back at dads costs.

Looked like a few auctions were - when I looked last night not all though
Did you have any store lambs in Longtown yesterday? I had a handful in,thought trade was nothing special. There seemed to be any amount of decent store lambs in low £60 s. JE snapped up anything fat at £70-£75. He didnt seem to have any competition for those at all.

It’s been like that all the time it’s just euphoric on here lol 😂 reality is it’s ok trade nothing more but the gossip merchants have it blown out of all
Proportion , breeding sheep is where the better money has been .

Its just that there have been and are reports on here of smallish store lambs making £70 +,in South West marts,Hereford,Skipton, and Stirling etc.Why dont the buyers get to Longtown or Hexham where they seem to be at least £10 cheaper. Roughly 5000 plus at each place Tuesdays and Fridays.

Been market this morning and not a lot of decent stuff at low 60's

Think lmbs were stickers at Stirling today aswell, still any good lambs high 60s, alot of bfs lmbs In around 40£, had afew 60 odds for bigger ones, 50 odd for late gimmer twins, had some cast ewes they worked away averaged 62. Only a trailor load of odds and ends left, take them to the Xmas sale. English man called Mr clay helped the ewe trade at the end.
