Quite a few down here have already started lambing and no end seem to be starting early November.

I think a lot of these very early lambing ones are on supermarket contracts.

I hope it’s a good contract because seems hellish expensive to carry them through winter

Due end of this Month in lamb Dorset ewes made around £182 today.

They were total beasts of ewes. Huge things and pedigree too.

One bidder wanted them at any price it would seem given the way she was bidding.

Big money store cattle at Malton today. Hope these fat prices hold. Some absolute crackers that were nearly fit over £1300. Some good Lim x over £1100. Bought some at £900. Stakes are high this year.

Several were doing it last year, not sure on specs but I know they want them under a certain weight and after that they get cut hard, one large farm I know who is on it, lambed Oct then weaned off hundreds of lambs in Jan and housed them to get them on the scheme.

Last two years early lambing (ie Nov/Dec ) hasn't been anywhere near as profitable in the open market as late lambing ( ie Feb/ March ).

I saw half an hour of todays sale online, there was some good strong cattle in the bit I saw, making a good price as well, some coming down to Yorkshire/Durham as well.

Only got 1 heifer to feed out of my league and price today can normally pick a handfull every week but not today special sale for limousin bred and more buyers

We lambed in march and have fed them all to clear out before winter, normally carry 200 through till Feb/march, but felt we didn't want to run past Brexit date and was worried winter might = flu season = more lock down = poor prices.

I got no sheep now,only tack ones, but when I gave up I sorted all my lambs out and any I thought would be difficult to fatten out I put in the store sales in Sept . Turned out to be a good decision !
