Boss sent some to pickstocks week before last on a Tuesday with couple of cull cows. Killed on Wednesday. After numerous email and texts, the kill sheets for Angus eventually come at tail end of last week and said to be killed with normal clean cattle and no bonus paid. 🤔

Rep said Angus only killed on Fridays. News to us, never been a problem before and he knew what was on the wagon.
I think Angus have to go on a wednesday with ABP Ellesmere

Local haulier has had his deckers and wagons and drags leading sheep in to kill full time for months now. Drivers all out of time so he’s been putting one a week through their test to double shift the wagons plus between four and six artic deckers hired in full time every week.
He’s convinced there will be no sheep left by end of December and we will name the price so he thinks
I hope hes right. I really do. But the cynicism that 20 years of beef and sheep farming has ingrained into me keeps niggling away that it can’t last much longer...

They never seem to run out of sheep these days....they appear out of thin air

I don’t pay luck and never will.. I think it’s embarrassing tbh a grown man stood by his sheep waving a £5 note around like his life depends on it and nobody will buy his sheep if he doesn’t is just too cringeworthy ...
Dont talk silly man it's a long tradition that I like & it's a bit of fun if nothing else. If I sell stock & happy with the price I have not issues with giving out a purple.......

It’s just a gesture of good will and hopefully success to the person you’ve sold to. After all it’s their success that brings them back to buy again giving you money
I don’t usually chase for luck, the only one I approached for luck was the vendor decided to give my lad a gob full for buying his tup. We gave each other a few choice words and went our separate ways. A smooth transaction
In my experience it does make buyers come back especially on a bad day when there’s not much competition.

I give £5 on cattle.£10 if i hit £1000 or above.Fat and store lambs is variable, depending on the trade on the day.If im well above what i think they would make,i give a bit more. I remember going with my father to York to buy pedigree milking cows as a 12 year old. A 50p piece (decimal currency just come in) given to me for a decent £120 milker........."and spend it wisely" says the seller..............Tight folk these Yorkshiremen.

I don’t really think it’s about the amount it’s more the acknowledgement and thank you.

Tbh I’d probably give a bit of luck out as a way of getting too know other farmers more than anything after my stocks sold I certainly wouldn’t stand in the ring waving it about.. but Iv never actually seen my stock sold ever....
