Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

Catering job will be gone untill at least April/ May and possibly untill June

100% we will be in another lockdown by mid/end Feb or most of the country will be in Tier 3 by then!

And why will people go out for a meal in Tier 2 when they cant meet friends/ family etc and only eat with their household, just as well stay home and cook a meal.

On the beef price front, i have not heard of one quote that is less this week other than for one Angus job.

Will be intresting to see what the beef price quoted tomorrow for next week is.
Woodheads 370 this coming week

Do people think more are getting into the store lamb job as more winter keep available in the way of cover crops grass keep etc. Seems a lot round here chasing grass keep.
I think some were holding off hoping for job to collapse but it hasn’t and people who bought lambs in August are coming back for round 2 with cash on the hip

Dunbia 470 for lambs next week. The same as mid june then lifted to 485 during july. Lucky if my lambs have half the profit in them now as there was back then though. 50p up on year though.

there are still plenty of catch crops about , something has to eat them ,
Plenty bloody grass about never mind crops! Bloke I have land off rang me this morning too tell me he’s another 100 acre of grass he wants me too graze he didn’t think it would need it but it won’t stop growing! Stuff I moved sheep off 2-3 weeks ago is as green as hell again[emoji85] if I had the money in the bank I’d go out buy 300 lambs tomorrow and I think I’d still not have too worry about grazing

What I don’t get is why these store lamb buyers aren’t buying out of the fat?? ... people claiming 30kg Texels making £75-80.. well they’re going for £70 in the fat so surely logic would dictate the fat is the place too buy?

30kg fat are fat if you bought them out of the fat to graze might get to 36kg and be very fat. 30kg in stores are lean and most will get to 45kg that's the difference. Just put 1200 away at 32ish lean at £2kg.happy with that as they will get to 45kg. Depends on future trade will standstill at £1.85.Any better price per kg will be the profit

Yeah Iv chewed a summer reseed off I thought I’d be on for a month in 10 days [emoji85] it’s certainly knocked the grass this past few days

Exeter today...

Store cattle, very short on numbers with only about 265 head penned sold to the dearest trade of the year, average for steers is reported at £1000 head..

Sheep..

Wow, what a day in the sheep pens!!

Trade was on fire in every section..

Orphan lambs a flyer, top was £40 head for strong lambs but 10 day old lambs were a belter of a trade making £35 head,, Similar lambs last week at £22 head and the week before at £10 head....

Store lambs,,, A cracking entry of 3095 lambs penned sold to a flyer of a trade and most lambs up several ££s on the week, several pens over £100 head and lambs needing another 6-8 weeks on farm between £85-94 head and the very small lambs needing 5/6 months on farm were reported as being around the £3 kilo mark..

Couples, a super entry for the time of year of 49 ewes + lambs meet a trade that could well be the dearest ever seen at the market for couples, top was £275 outfit for FM doubles with FM/BM doubles from another vendor at £272 outfit, so around the £91 life, overall average is reported as around £82/83 life in this section.

No end of confidence in every ring from buyers be that cattle or sheep.
Couples = bonkers! ,not a hope in hell of making any money at £91 a head

Plenty lambs in the prime market with lack of flesh that’s what he’s getting at which if you bought them would be the cheapest store lambs there has ever been.
A mate bought 400 one day like that cheaper than stores
