Would you just keep them ticking over until then or try and keep them on good grass the whole way through?
Mine all go on my poorer wintering farms to grow frame then onto either better grass or green crop in early February.
Doesn’t pay to push them too hard all the way through. They need time regardless. Push them too hard and they start dying in you.

Just give them the best you can without costing you the maximum I would say. There’s been plenty of time for hoggs the last few years been good up to May or later ( no guarantee that will happen this time) I would say keep them on good grass. Your good grass is probably way better than mine

I can believe. They would in general be better eating, although a spring born lamb at this time is perfectly acceptable if off grass.
I don’t know much about this all year round hogg job but I think it’s ethnic trade. Maybe wouldn’t be any good if we all did it.
Ive seen me with a good few hundred left in May panicking and the dealers asking me what I had left they have thousands
You might know more about it than I do

I've seen JC sending hoggs in to work in June before, just when you think they're all finished!

There’s orders for hoggs now for 12 months of the year right up to the end of this month believe it or not
Anything that’s left at the end of May now we turn up the hill until Eid now. That extra couple of months makes all the difference and this last 3 years they have paid hands down for doing it too. Always used too just load everything up on 1st June and shift it regardless of condition but things change!

Of course Eid moves 10 days every year, so it's a dynamic situation.

Yes an old guy up here picks up all kinds of odds and sorts, he's been paying up to 36£ this year, runs them all on till clipping time, then sells them. He, ll have dead ones but he's done it for ever. And drives a new shape discovery.

Where does everyone send them when teeth are up, i know some don’t get them for ages but they hammer you in marts or deadweight at that time of year in my experience.
