They would just about go deadweight but certainly not liveweight!

Only 995 store lambs penned, if they were about this trade would certainly draw them out.

Even more good news for the hard pressed beef/sheep sectors as i have just been told straw is dropping in price, delivered is back £20 ton already this week to £130/40 for barley delivered into Devon this week.
Back from £140/130 not to by prices I heard.

Straw in this area is now non existent so I am not sure where all this cheaper stuff is coming from!!

Companies doing it locally apparently want new buildings, to their spec, rather than conversions, hence the cost. Maybe they're paying more/pig for the privilege though?

Copious quantities of pig muck produced is some sort of fert supply imported too, if you can make use of it all of course.

I've heard rumours companies wanting people fast, most up here are just converted sheds.

Definitely less fert needed but when it's not stopped raining fo weeks and storage is full it can be a pain. Would suit a sandy farm I suspect.

It’s about time these cattle and sheep went through the roof, they’ve been sh!t for years. Only time cattle were a realistic trade was horsegate year. When subs are gone these current prices are going to have to be the norm otherwise shelves will be empty and folk will be hungry
Just had a super market delivery , boy reckons they can’t deliver fast enough and the shop is empty nearly all the time they run Ona knife edge for running out and it’s a big shop .

Spot on, can't like that enough!

Thing is these cattle should be doing even more to make sure there's enough for the calf rearers, store producers through to the finishers. Making sure everyone gets a piece of the pie and not just crumbs!

Are you going to do it ?

Cattle sheds or old silage pits are fast converted for no where near that cost. Straw cost takes the shine off though 2000 pigs will go through more than you think. You've also got to like mucking out a lot and stinking like nothing else.
A good thing about a pig is they shite in one place so should save on bedding

From the sound of it certain straw dealers ( who you will know ) have been over talking the price of straw up the last few weeks and it has somewhat backfired on them as people stopped buying!
when will you wake up it aint there and thats local to us in the midlands , took a guy a load today and he booked two more , we must be to cheap.

What trade were in lamb ewes at Exeter today @Jerry?

Pretty good from what I saw, did not stay to see most sold, was a slow start but there were some runs of very decent ewes that made OK money.

Some one I know sold about 150 ewes of various types and ages, nothing special at all and pretty much 80% bought out of the cull lines at Exeter/Sedge back in Aug....so prob average about £70 bought. Every pen was over £100 other than his last at £98. Some made £120.

Good solid meat making ewes were a good trade though, Good few at £170, loads at £150.
