said it before, mkts are thier own worst enemy, they say they are the transparent selling system, some could question that. they have thier favoured customers both buyers and sellers. ive never been one , ipay on the day , they never have to chase me for money unlike many of thier favoured clients.
They do favour some folks but they like the ones that are there every week.

Never heard of markets ringing up to say you will not be paid because one has died a week later or even anytime after the auctioneer has knocked it down sold.

Happened to me.
Must be a getout clause in the auctioneers rules, never read them all, there's pages of them.

Usually the big ego crew that gets drawn in. Auctioneers have a special instinct of sniffing them out and selecting them exploitation
Or young lads let loose with the cheque book. Father won’t give up his regular days so son goes somewhere out of area, usually somewhere father used to go to himself years back but fell out with. Marts don’t forget, reel him in with a free breakfast, judging and pull his pants down. Father probably got the same treatment there 30 years earlier as a boy....history repeating

Store cattle judged by a breeder of heifers and calves conveniently set up by the auctioneer. Stores placed in order of who’s likely easiest manipulated to buy the heifers and calves and expected to do so

I’ve been asked three times over the years and politely declined every time for that very reason...
I’ve judged ewe lambs and store lambs plenty of times. Tups a couple of times too.

Never followed up the store lambs to buy them. I don’t buy that size of lamb so that’s my get out clause.

I’ve usually been asked to judge ewe lambs after we’ve bought a couple of prize pens the year before. Sometimes I’ve bought 1st, 2nd & 3rd when trade has been bad, sometimes I’ve set them off and not bought any of them.

Just coz they expect you too follow up on your choice doesn’t mean you have too!

I’ve bought 2nd prize lambs for £10/20 more than the 1st prizes a few times then never bid at the 1st’s. when asked why the answer is usually “it’s not my fault your judge wouldn’t know a good sheep if he fell over it” some people don’t take that well... 😁😂
