So long as we are in lock down and people eat at home rather than in bars, pubs, restaurants and sandwich bars the job will be good. Almost all meat sold in UK supermarkets is home sourced, while a fair proportion of catering meat will have been imported. Even at current prices you can buy the meat to feed a family of 4 for less than the price of a single meal out! Once hospitality restarts, all bets are off. Don't get left holding the baby!

Edit: and home many people choose lamb on a menu when eating out.? That is if it is even on offer.

The drop in price is likely just an attempt by the processors to pull prices back to where they want them to be
They will have put their heads together to do this
It is a dangerous time for them to leave prices where they are without intervening at this time of year as numbers tighten and prospect of numbers being tighter than normal
They know there’s only a set number of sheep and it annoys them to be paying more than they see necessary
We will see what happens but if my theory is correct it will lift sharply when it does within a few weeks

When lamb is offered on a Sunday lunch menu it seems
to be sold out first ,the trouble is you are correct in your
observation of it being infrequently offered.

Because people don’t want to keep 2 animals to sell one
Because people don’t want to calve cows and suck calves on
Because people like to finish a tea time and not be up all night
If finished stock stay at these prices, and lord knows they should, then the folks doing the real graft should be rewarded.

(BTW @livestock 1, if you bought an AA bull you might be able to get to your bed 🛌 on a night (y) :D)
