Good trade at malton today. Two lim steers over £1600
Used to supply a farmer a few cattle when he run short for his farmers market stall he wouldn’t touch a Belgian blue in it dryer then a witches tit the meat was so he said Hereford heifer was his first choiceA bit of native beef , the best beef the butcher said he has seen in over twenty years .... of butchering limmys Another border butcher converted to native beef .
Yes they probably are, I don’t buy stores so those figures are second hand but it’s a lot of money to look at some cattle but if your on the wheel it has to be done I suppose!!Going on those figures they would be around 430 kgs live. Assuming they are R/U grade, that seems in line with elsewhere?
The men buying week in , week out would have made a tidy sum on the stores they bought before fat trade lifted so its swings and roundabouts. The people who lose the most are those that stop and start at the finishing job and are always chasing the trade.Yes they probably are, I don’t buy stores so those figures are second hand but it’s a lot of money to look at some cattle but if your on the wheel it has to be done I suppose!!
Checkin the heifers/cows ?????I think it’s great in there. Always meet up with some of the gang in there!! End up taking about similar stuff to what’s on here
from what ive seen the further north you go the better the bull used!Probably too much native blood in them
that sounds like me this year kept buying a few, but wasnt strong enough in sept , oct. i admit my mistakes. The men buying week in , week out would have made a tidy sum on the stores they bought before fat trade lifted so its swings and roundabouts. I think everyone will be different but perhaps on average yes which is pretty poor really and farmers actually get exited better than loosing I suppose .Leaves approx £100 per beast if all goes well.
Those ewe hoggs aren’t really even make fat prices the in lamb ones. I’d be a bit annoyed at that given the work involved getting them there.
48kg today last week were 50kg. Can't remember what the week before were I think they were 44-45kg or thereabouts. What weights?

Fresh off field or empty weight?48kg today last week were 50kg. Can't remember what the week before were I think they were 44-45kg or thereabouts.
No these last 2 bunches are out of a shed and on the market scales in less than an hour. The £124 ones were out of a field with empty bellies I gathered them a bit too early in the morning and they didn't get a chance to fill up because it hadn't gone light very long. Find you usually lose a couple of kilos doing that so try not to do it.Fresh off field or empty weight?
Weighed some killing ewe lambs yesterday in the field, 8 sub 45, a lot mid 50’s and some hitting high 50’s. 1 chartex which is being kept was 68kg
Could be depends what they were like. The store sale tags on the back of the breeding sheep in the same ring so all the store buyers would be there and wouldn’t be shy of buying any to killThose ewe hoggs aren’t really even make fat prices the in lamb ones. Except the texels.
