Yes so it’s not all plain sailing you mean?...and plant ryegrass species that will use Nitrogen in February then carry on growing when it’s cold. You’ll have to plant them every year though.

Can anyone tell me about the premium on the Waitrose Angus scheme please?
I have some to sell and have had the chance to send some this way
This is NOT a wind up either
Bought heifers incalf to Angus bullI’m sure guth will be along too tell you shortly
It's westerwold planted on springbarley stubble . No good for grazing as too close to Hfd with no fencing . I planted it cheaply ....it's still not a cheep way really but I know I will have got some good silage . If I could have grazed it with tack sheep till end of Feb then it would be a different scenario with cost .Yes so it’s not all plain sailing you mean?
Some of our ground is ploughable some isn’t I’m looking into some over seeding but heard it’s bitty missyIt's westerwold planted on springbarley stubble . The ground is predominantly warm . The frosts we are having shouldn't affect the seed as it's not a penetrating frost ..... so I'm led to believeI’m no tatie farmer but everywhere round here is ridged up with tatties, carrots and parsnips now, surely all this frost will just kill the seed? They don’t seem too be holding back planting regardless [emoji23]
No its been postponed till 2022 .......Is there a silage 2021 theard yet
Spray it off and go over it lightly with a power harrow ,quite fast, broadcast the seed on and roll them in . Job done !Some of our ground is ploughable some isn’t I’m looking into some over seeding but heard it’s bitty missy
With the westerwold grass ,if I wasn't ploughing it up I would bang on another dose of fert on it and would hopefully be mowing again in 6 to 7 wks . That's when it becomes worthwhile doing .Yes so it’s not all plain sailing you mean?

I was just being cautious of not being too optimistic !Place I go silaging at grows a lot of westerwolds and Italian ryes ect and cuts every 4-5 weeks [emoji15]
Do you have any land that goes right down to the Wear valley bottom? I think you have got to get the conditions 100% right for over seeding to work, mostly decent rain after you have just finished rolling it in,otherwise it doesnt really work and a waste of money and grass seed. Some of our ground is ploughable some isn’t I’m looking into some over seeding but heard it’s bitty missy
Think @Bald Rick has started Silage making on Anglesey. No its been postponed till 2022 .......

Ah a “shepherds lawn” as my dad would call it. The only grass on a sheep farm in April is always the bloody lawn!Only place we have any 'visible' grass is on the fudgin lawn - every other leaf that peeps up in a field gets hoovered up in the first 10 seconds by something with wool on .
