I bet a tenner some take that money and don’t pay the premium 😂 the world has a lot of good people but the scum are closer than you’d hope .
Insurance against bad debt was always factored into an already high commission rate at Wright Marshall. Pretty obvious something had been going unpaid there when they went under and no money was forth coming!! Never been so relieved too have fallen out with someone in my life until then!

So farmers where paying for the insurance, then when it went under didn’t get paid?

Good . There are so many fattening units around now that can buy 'orange' cattle . Not any difference in trade
Was it yourself not so long ago who couldn’t get some tested because the vets were so busy so sold them to an AFU? It makes me wonder if there is little price difference why more don’t just do that and avoid the hassle of being shut down? Especially if you only have a few to sell and the vet cost per animal is high or am I misunderstanding the rules down with with you

Yes your right at the moment but that's because cattle are wanted . When the trade wasn't so good then it didn't work quits so well. Its easy to sell anything anywhere on a good trade which is what we have at the moment

Still need the majority to sell in markets so people can see what they are worth but i get your point. AFU buyers had a bad rep when they first started becuase they begged cattle but with so many at it now you can choose a fair one. Small cattle still see the worse price knock because afu's are not set up for longterm cattle .

All our prime lambs are covered for bad debt by insurance premium of 10p/head
Is that in a market or dead weight?
with a market? How do you know that covers debt insurance and is actually spent or providing what it says on the w
Sale statement?.. insurance would have lots of variables in terms of if it would stand up to and pay out for... To me no market can really guarantee that your sheep are insured against bad debt in particular when they are a solely auction company with limited assets and service offerings..
Taking the money and not paying the premium is fine IF they still pay out under the same circumstances.
That could be a interesting one on insurance are you insured by the auction house or are you paying insurance for the auction house against their customers???
When Newark was 'having a bit of a wobble', I went into the
office and asked them what our 10p/head deduction actually covered.
Turned out it wasn't any form of insurance at all - it was just another deduction they'd been 'skimming off' for a few years :banghead:
Didn't matter in the end 'cos everybody got paid out anyway, but it shows 'all that glitters isn't forced to be gold'.

At least the Newark farmers got paid. I know a few people who only got paid out a few pence in the pound from Beeston. And it took over 2 years to come through! 😳

I have heard same. Bloody bad really bad. I’m only young but that carry on there will stick with me for rest of my time

What’s quite sickening is that no doubt the bayliffs made sure all the debts were collected from creditors... then took a huge chunk of money for them selves which will of been ridiculous and then started paying off anybody who was owed money with what ever penny’s were left in the pot after that

Yep, the official receivers cover all their costs first then the banks, then everyone else.

I know of one outfit who were owed quite a few thousands for store cattle. Old fella sent his lads down with a tractor and trailer a piece too collect a ruck of the sheep hurdles from the temporary sheep marquee the day after the balloon went up. They got there and the firm who supplied the hurdles were already there... turns out they wanted their money too!! Wrong, just wrong. I would not pi$$ on the pillock if he were on fire.
