I haven’t got anything really I criticise too much there about those types
The only thing I could say to answer this is that my late father did say that in one of the Swale dale sheep breeders association books there was a bit written stating that a genuine swaledale ewe should go grey by drafting age
Yeh, Draft ewes supposed to have a pair of "spectacles" round there eyes, not when there shlgs (y)

Well you can go but you will have a long wait!! It’s moved to barnard castle now. Tups tend to be bigger than a lot. Decent sorts if you are aiming to breed mule lambs
Is it definitely at Barney again this time? I knew it was there last year to help with social distancing but hadn't heard out about this year, thought it might go back to St Johns

For you sheep people: Hereford Ewe Lambs on Tuesday.

EWE LAMBS - 8013 Auctioneers - Greg Christopher/Matthew Nicholls
A huge entry and tremendous show of quality throughout the sale, a real credit to all
the vendors, met an excellent trade which was maintained throughout. A large ringside
of purchasers with ewe lambs going to all parts of the country. A strong North Wales’
contingent with several purchasers from North Wales and Anglesey being drawn by
the show of Suffolk x Mules.
The Suffolk x Mules just edging the Texel x Mules in terms of trade with our
champion pen of lambs from first time vendor Milborne Wick Farms, Dorset - these
strong Suffolk x North Country Mule lambs topped at £210. M/s T L & E M Davies,
Hill Farm showed an exceptional run of Suffolk x Welsh Mules that also hit £200 and
£182, with M/s P D Williams to £170, M/s A M Jones, Middle Farm to £160 and the
strongest tupping lambs a real trade from £150 to £170. The strongest and smartest
running lambs from £135 to £148, with no end of pens in the £140’s. Smaller smart
headed types from £125 to £132, with very few Suffolk x Mules under £120. Some
excellent runs of running lambs from M/s J P & J A Davies, Mr S I Rogers, Mr G L
Davies and M/s I J & A M Price also very well sold.
Texel cross ewe lambs out in huge numbers, with pure Texels topping the day at £220,
from R Helme, Ford Farm, Texel x Mules topping at £166 from M/s E G C Davies &
Co. M/s V E Lewis & Son, The Garn taking 1st and 2nd prizes with their excellent run
of Texel x Mules, the 1st prize pen to £162. They showed a superb line up of Texel
cross Mules with those trading £136 to £151.
M/s J L & K H Nixon to £160 and M/s M J & N E Samuel to £156. The strongest
lambs all £145 to £160, with plenty in the £150’s. The strongest running lambs from
£135 to £145, with smaller lots from £120 to £130. Huge numbers of Texel x Mules
allowing purchasers to be selective at times like the Suffolk cross Mules several
excellent runs of Texel cross Mules from Herdman & Son, J T Abberley and J T
Davies. Some smaller types trading £88 to £105 but in front of the finished and store
trade.
Only a handful of Welsh Mules, with a pen of white faced Mules from Mr R C Samuel
to £144. Aberfield x ewe lambs from £88 to £100.
Very few remaining unsold throughout the day, with the first 20 lots the hardest work.
Trade was maintained to the end with a smart pen of Suffolk x Mules at £142, only 10
lots from the finish. Throughout the sale the well presented lambs, vaccinated against
Clostridial disease were commanding a premium and is worthwhile for all vendors.

its all about sheep , lets have a break, will store cattle job take a breather in a week or two?
Thank f*ck for that I was about to fall into my tea sleeping if I read anymore about grey faced sheep & how long there fudging ears are.........!!!
No I'll say it'll keep firing on, plenty of straw, silage, corn, autumn crops all going in on track & no ones really got stacks of fat cattle they haven't shifted taking up space so I'll say as long as there's no disasters job should keep smoking...!?

On the SSBA web-site it says Chapel for D district sale and I`m pretty certain that is the case - it was a one-off last year due to Covid. Not a popular move but felt necessary and it was a decent venue, but NOT in the correct district! ( Barney is in A district).
Chapel is a very traditional mart - a nice day out if the weather`s favourable:)

Which would be the sale of choice as a tourist??

Hawes or Kirby if you want too look at swale ewes with balls…
Middleton or St John’s for stronger “Tup” type sheep.
that’s how I’ve had it described too me by more than one person! 😂
Been to Hawes gimmer lamb sale six years ago as a tourist. The sheep weren’t for me but liked the atmosphere. Some rich men around there after selling there each year

Barny mart website has it at Chapel.this year. Think last year just a one off.

Don’t actually know. They want it under cover so that means marquess if it’s at chapel. There won’t be a big enough entry to cover the cost very well off the commission from that sale. General consensus of thought was once she got it shifted to Barney it would stay that way.
Marquee hire lot we use for lambing tents has been double shifting staff through the night they are that busy so unless you are a regular they won’t get tents either
