I’ve just watched the video from Kirby Stephen of the £1700 pen of 5 swale ewes… I don’t believe it. If they were cull ewes I’d have walked away… pretty faces on bodies with NO shape NO depth and the front fecking knees were practically touching?!?!?!?! FFS I give up. No wonder the Cheviot mule and Scotch mule are gathering momentum. I wouldn’t swap them for the ones @AftonShepherd bought in J36 the other day!!!
If the breeder or purchaser is on here, I’m sorry too be blunt. But those ewes are what’s knackering the mule job.
Have you seen the champion pen of Swale at benthen???

Yes , my brother went to Bentham, came back with some real ewes, always do well those out of Horton in Ribblesdale, a fella that concentrates on confirmation and keepin a bit of colour in them.
Bottom end ewes would be the dear ones this year.Think better end ewes werent too silly really, saw Greg at Hawes, he was complainin we'd had the better of him, i said well that will be a first!
I think I know the man you mean. I’ve had ewe lambs from him many a time. Proper old fashioned mules still. 👌

Here’s the answers.
There’s Swales bred for the proper Swale job and Swales bred for crossing you can’t compare one against another
A Swale fell sheep shouldn’t be a great big thing how big do you want them?
Value the breeding
You don’t know what you are talking about
You haven’t a clue
There’s black and black that’s proper black
Look at the sort
Now that’s what a Swale should look like
That’s kind of like a ewe
There’s a lot more to a Swale than bloody mule lambs
Now that’s fashion
This is the future
ps
Don’t shoot the messenger
Ps again
I may not agree with any of this just what I’ve been told a good few times ^

I’ve just seen the picture of top price swale ewes in St John’s in the paper. They look real good swale ewes. Width, depth and just look right good types of sheep!
Those folk who you are on about have stuck to their type. They haven’t been tempted by the smaller narrow shouldered types with silvery heads. Their ewes haven’t changed too much over the years but fashion has. They have as good of a packet of breeding ewes at home as you will find (in my opinion) The pen you are looking at will be for the pure job but their ewes will do both
