Fort William the same today
Those cattle are never going to grow into big cattle though, looking at the report the majority are only 250kgs. People are getting wise as to what cattle will hit the weights and specs for top fat prices and sucklerbred 250kg weanlings arent them. They made what they were worth by the looks to me. Farmers cant expect to keep cows that look like mountain goats and then expect to sell calves out from them for big money.

The sheep jobs looking ok though!
I was thinking today, I’ve got bugger all cattle on at the moment but I’ve sheep coming out of my ears. Might not be a bad thing. Can also use the empty beef shed for lambing or feeding hoggs if needs be. Will have too see how it goes! Only needs me too be in the wrong place for 1 sale and all of a sudden that sheds full of young bulls… 😫

I think you would be surprised what they turn into. The best of genetics in a lot of these cattle ,just reared on hard terrain. I know that cattle out of Fort William are regularly mentioned in the market reports in at least one market in the south of the country.

ill put my neck on the block but I can see store cattle easing back…inputs are going through the roof
Long time till spring and alot can happen, you dont winter cattle on fert either. This time last year posters were talking the job down and saying they were not going to winter cattle etc etc and fat went up and cattle got dearer still. I dont think the cattle are about either so the dithering men will get left behind again

I’m not talking the job down, I’m giving my opinion….I’m buying all the time if the price is right. I don’t see the point in paying senseless prices for them though just to have them, I like making money

Lambs from Lazonby Third sale on Wednesday. First time back there in 11 years, avg £112. Took old boss for a day out too one of his old haunts. Good day was had by all and not a bad sample of lamb really. They should grow. 👍 Get a Rouge tup on them next month and the jobs a good un!
Some nice looking lambs there but you'd better Be careful, you might decide you like the ones bred out of swales better than the blackie ones and you'll have to make the trip to Lazonby again next year

You'd be surprised at what you find in sheds up there, some quality cattle hiding in those glens!

Any money feeding lambs on pellets indoors? Cost of stores and feed anybody doing it?
