There’s a certain mart just off the A69 seems too be quietly a flying trade for store lambs and Cast ewes!! Don’t know much about their fat lamb trade but it’s very tempting too try them with a lorry load of culls!
A large percentage of the lambs aren’t stores! Friend of mine had 300 over 44kg. Your friendly auctioneer from the large sheep market in the west drew the best for Thursday fat and the rest went the next day in the store. Guess which made the most!

Friday without a doubt!!! 😂😂😂 I have always thought there were more white faced finished lambs than actual stores… 😉

The ones that went in the stores would most likely have a number sorted out to kill which wouldn’t have been good enough in the eyes of the buyers at the Thursday prime market.
The ones in the stores would be weighed visually by the lads in the playpen (accurately) the ones on the Thursday would be weighed by the mart

Couldn’t comment on lambs in either mart as a seller but all I know is this last three weeks we’ve managed to get lambs out of the tuesday store sale in the west, the local one on Monday but completely failed to get a thing out the one in the middle on a Friday which has 5000 entered most weeks. The only saving grace was we were going with ewes most weeks fairly happy.
What makes it even better is that AHDB don’t get a pull out of them!! I really don’t understand why they have to levy cast ewes in prime Marts.

Can you not put them down as grazers?

I'm staying bonfire weekend just east of Worcester, any good marts worth a visit the Friday or Monday? Don't mind going say 50 miles the wrong way, but would be heading from/ going back to Cardiff area. I know Raglan on the Monday

Bit of a round trip on Monday and you could take in Ludlow and Welshpool on Monday and you are passing Brecon on Friday

Would the poorer end of lambs be worth as much at the Friday store sale compared to the Tuesday store sale?

I’m pretty sure the AHDB levy is still payable, but at the point of slaughter. It still comes off somewhere, whether that’s visible on your mart deductions, or in a slightly lower bid from a slaughterhouse.
