Today at Northallerton. All just straight R grades, the two Salers were overage slightly, the bull a bad doer better gone at that price. The heifers including overage I would estimate around 445p dead equivalent

does anyone hang about for culls ? i would for lambs so i dont get leg lifted , dont bother with culls usually a steady trade those boys dont miss much
Same at St Boswells. Most lots of lambs will have someone standing in the ring. Unusual to see anyone with cull ewes. I saw everything sold for a period up until covid after a severe shafting on one occasion.

:unsure:they must have been better than r grades surely?......dont think i would get much above £2kg for straight r grades up here, especially lightweight ones, you must have done them well(y)

I had a few of them too if it’s any conciliation
Ouch, I would imagine if you had a shafting it would smart for longer than mine!

After that incident, I was in conversation I was in touch with a livestock agent who is also an auctioneer. He said that he would never sell anything in a mart without standing with it. Says it all really, when one of their own doesn't even trust them!

Yes just got caught with some store cattle and hoggs around the time of the first lockdown
They were often adrift one week hoggs were only averaging less than 1.50 I think I av 1.47 that week and a neighbour rang up wanting me to complain he only av 1.20 I felt a lot better after he’d been on the phone, wasn’t sure what moaning was going to achieve. It wasn’t just the lockdown to be fair too many hoggs had been stacked up for one of the festivals and there was a lot of uncertainty around then.

Aye, I took it on the chin as well. A mate of mine yoked on the auctioneer at Scotsheep that year and gave him a dressing down, though! It was May and trade took a major downturn, £1.50kg average. My consignment averaged £1 and they were fit if not really thick.

Didn’t stop me ringing the auctioneer up and giving him a severe bollocking with no room for counter arguments! Sent the next few hundred elsewhere. He had some serious grovelling too do.

Yes it was around then if I remember right. I think we had 100+ in that week I was told the trade was bad but wanted sheep moved on. Didn’t seem much point in hanging back then with still plenty at home but should have given it a miss. Some of the dealers were in at them and cashed them soon after. Fair play they were best there on the day they knew the script

Just back from Kirkby, lot fewer in, just over 120 pens whereas last week over 200. I would think trade similar to last week. Heavy lambs at a premium, mule wethers over 50kgs getting up to £130, Texel/mules £140. Swaleys up to £2.20 per Kg. Swaley job looks quite attractive at the moment!

Anything with size and weight in good demand, smaller lambs even if shapey not so, again anything a bit thin penalised. Apparently the export job is good at the moment and certainly buyers that I know buy for export trade were very active.

Took some beltex x lambs out of hoggs, topped at £155, averaged £148, average weight 49 Kgs
