TB is getting much worse here in Wales to the point it's getting out of hand so it wouldn't surprise me if guth was right about the raw milk story they seem pretty desperate to stop it but won't actually do anything worthwhile about it. Just more and more testing. I know someone who had to test his wife's pet goat recently.
We've gone to 6 month testing now. Getting closer all the time and all they do is test more. Nothing is actually being done to stop it apart from more testing.
My dad says his grandparents could name several families who had lost people, mainly children, to TB. Including one family who lost all 8 kids after their parents bought a house cow who was infected with TB. People who are f**king about wanting more testing but not actually doing anything to help would do well to hear some of those stories.
My grandfather died of TB , never met him only in his 30s, in his prime , a marine engineer . Died in one of them sanitariums where they had them in beds outside for fresh air.

Sorry I know tb was yesterdays off topic conversation but it really pisses me off that they aren't actually doing anything about it. I could tell you who is responsible for tb in our area stop the irresponsible f**ktard trading and it would stop.
why do you say it would stop if one person stopped trading

That person is NOT the problem!

The problem is that they are NOT DEALING WITH TB IN THE WILDLIFE anywhere near good enough!

Setting farmer on farmer over the TB issue is a what the powers that be want as it takes the attention away from their INACTION on dealing with the problem in the wildlife population and untill you do that then the industry is on a hiding to nothing over TB in cattle!

So this mv sounds very serious, so how big of a problem is it out there? Common rare?

Nobody really knows as so little testing is done. The surveillance testing that does get done periodically shows steadily increasing levels. :(

We all get a few older ewes that go thin for no apparent reason, we all get a few that get mastitis, etc. Who ever looks into the reason?

Listening to the report they was up to a fortnight ago trade with very few few types in but average was still £93 odd
Report on Facebook
Hmmm not sure on the report today! tbh did not sound that accurate to me! ( thou i did spend part of the sale looking at the pics of a lot of naked woman in a calender that was being sold at the market today for a very worthwhile brain tumour charity and which said calender was inspired by the tragic news of a 29 year old farmers grandson being diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour and only given 2 years at most to live. )

Orphan lamb trade was on fire!! Week old lambs easily £47 head and one 2 week old black lamb was put in at £50 and sailed away to about £55 head, thou listening to the report on FB it sounded like the trade was lacklustre which was certainly not the case!

I think it would be more of a problem in low ground flocks for some reason, I’ve never heard of it in any hill breeds.

It is spread (mostly) by sheep being in close proximity. Housing & feeding are an ideal way to spread it, so I guess real hill flocks will see it spreading at a lower rate, if it’s present.
Those ‘hill breeds’ that live in a shed over winter and are managed like a lot of lowland flocks to maximise numbers of mule lambs produced, will be just as likely to spread it around as any others.

A common cause of breakdowns in Mv accredited pedigree flocks seems to be the use of non accredited mule ewes as ET recipients. They’re bred on the hill, they’ll be alright…

Exported some semen to USA, Canada and NZ a couple of years ago and all the tups had to be tested for Bovine TB while in isolation before they went to the collection centre.

It was done with the same skin test as cattle - had to bare clip the area first.
