Any reports from Stafford.

We left rather disappointed. Carcass hall was half empty of entries and certainly not the amount of trade stands as normal. Plenty of folk mind, and the usual set of Tommy ten men between Johnson's and the bar. 😒

Didn't really see anything sold. I'm not afraid of COVID but it was a little bit busy for me at ringside.
I went on Saturday. A lot less trade stands, none outside this year and none in the sheep halls like they have had in other years. Spoke to one stand who had been given a much larger area than they'd booked.
Also heard that cattle entries were down by about 60, and that was before the no shows! Some were suggesting it was possibly due to people not buying show cattle last yr/this spring in case shows didn't go ahead, after being stung last yr. I did think there would have been more show calves there though. Very surprised to see only 4 cattle carcasses entered! Pig entries looked a lot less than previous years. Didn't go round the sheep tbh.
The Show has been in decline for a few years now, not sure how they reverse it.

Cattle champion made £7000 according to Facebook.

I would think that want to get on and advertise, I’ve never heard of it.

My texel X lambs sold as
87kg pair @ £128 head
86kg pair @ £125 head
Coloured ryeland fluffy teddy bears 3rd in there
87kg pair @ £128
Suffolk X single lamb reserve champion
47kg @ £178 but donated the first £100 too rabi charity

overall numbers were down massively compared too previous probably due too the lack of notice and also lamb trades been good so people have been selling everything rather than holding stuff back for shows… the sale average should be pretty good the posh beltex types were anywhere from £140 too £500 head

You must not of been in a long time 😂 they’ve not had trade stands in the sheep halls since 2017! .. 2018-2019 both sheep sheds were rammed full and they sold a lot of sheep was a real buzz about it like it was on a come back but it’s gone back too how it was in 2016-2017 when there wasn’t many entries at all and everything had too be spaced out too make it look full… Saturday was dead this year but Sunday had a good buzz about it but lack of entries meant the show and sales were over way too early

First i said to the other half when we walked in was where were the rest of the beef carcasses. Like you say, only 4, and 2 of those were belties at o+4l's. Not that theres anything wrong with that. 🤐

Anyone pinning hopes on a turkey for Christmas would of been disappointed, sure there was less than half the usual entry. Also no geese or ducks. Produce show was hidden away in a back corner upstairs.

Saw the champion pigs sell at £400 to manifold valley meats, to keep on topic.
