It might be starting to effect the store lamb sales now. Longtown today didnt have the fire in it i thought. Not as many buyers around the ring. There were several hundred lambs in from one farm near Langholm,Texel out of South Country Cheviots i think. They were small but looked healthy enough, but there was no one there to sell them.Needless to say, they didnt make much.First pen in of 130 made about £68.Next pen of 100 in the £50s,and last ones £30.Think TE bought them. You would have thought that with those numbers, the seller would have been with them. Star of the sale was some Cheviot ewes made £2.Looked like they would stay alive.TE bought them.:)

Business as usual... so they claim

Trouble is it’s turned cold and what seemed like the good grassy backend has possibly come to an end with a bad forecast for the weekend. That leaves dealers feeders and the odd desperado farmer. You have to be pretty determined as a farmer buying stores when the weather is up against you. Was JE filling his boots today and looking happy? That’s a good indication they have dropped a bit.

I wonder what will happen when he packs it in? I will leave a bit of hole for those very small bad bred lambs.
Joking aside though. You guys probably go to market more than I do. But I can’t think of any youngsters that would fill his shoes. I know he probably doesn’t get his hands particularly dirty looking after this stock. But it’s hell of a commitment running round these markets. As well as the money he stands on the odd bad debt. Not a job for the faint hearted.

When Tony retires it will give some of you hero’s a chance too buy those £30 little lambs and £2 Cheviot ewes. Then you can show us all how easy it is too keep them living, get them growing and make massive £££‘a out of them.
Tony’s no fool. Those little lambs go on that lorry to his customers and he never sees them again. By far the best way!!!

Do you think he will retire? I reckon he’ll gone on for ages yet. You can tell he thoroughly enjoys it all. He told me a while back he used to run 9500 ewes in his prime. Never seen one of them lamb!

Definitely not! I reckon, like most farmers, Tony will keep going until the day he drops. Or has his licence taken away. But I doubt that would stop Tony. 😉☺️

His name is on the market report posted above earlier today for breeding ewes ( i think it was ).

He is very hands on with his sheep, see him or his wife on the roads all the time with the box moving sheep/ checking them/ moving rams etc.
