Or not farming for profit? Know of a “body” that has reduced stocking rates to I think 7 cows on 200 acre not that far from me
They look too be farming bleddy good gear on the big acreage though. And they have increased stocking in places on the heather ( which is hilarious as this was foretold years ago when they took loads of sheep off the grouse Moors!) doubtful that the 7 cattle on 200 acre will be tip top stock… especially if it’s one of the bodies I’m thinking of!

Welsh blacks, their putting full fencing 18 metres out from the hedges on every field (small fields anyway) so that wildlife can take over 🤦🏻‍♂️

FATSTOCK MARKET – MONDAY 10th JANUARY - RED MARKET


York Auction Centre had 488 head of stock forward including 215 Cattle, 183 Sheep and 90 pigs at their weekly sale of Prime stock.

1 week into the new year and the start of a full trading week, cattle numbers were in short supply the previous week and the trade remained strong. 118 bulls were well sold with all buyers present wanting cattle, prices were slightly stronger, the top price bull was shown by P & I Beal, weighing 678kg and making 280p/kg totalling £1895.01, purchased by John Worsley. Patrick Beal also had the top grossing price at £2102.55. There was a slightly smaller show of clean cattle, again the buyers were keen with stronger prices. Top price was a Limousin heifer from Pip Dale weighing 482kg, selling for 317p/kg, purchased by Tony Wasteney of Sheffield. The top grossing clean was Limousin steer from Rob Mewburn weighing 750kg and totalling £1871.25.
