A big number of hoggs at lanark looked hard work, they had alot of ewe buyer, DW buying alot of mules, they looked a good trade, especially bf ewes.

i counted 11 buyers at least round the ring but lambs weren’t flying at all.

ewes a great trade. Up £15 like for like in 3 weeks for blackies, and they were decent then aswell

Totally agree.
The emmediate problem is that the cattle just aren't there .
One reason mentioned was the quantity of cattle killed at a young age . 15/17 mths instead of being allowed to grow on into bigger cattle . It's become almost a viscious circle .
I was shown a graph which was quite interesting about different joints from beef cattle 15/17 mths 25/27 mths and then 36 mths . It does make you think we are actually 'wasting beef' in a funny sort of way !
..it's quite interesting that the bigger cattle tend to be going through the livestock fat markets and the same abbatoirs are buying them !
I pointed out that it was the abbatoirs that originally set the trend for smaller cattle !

Hit the nail on the head, rushing them only makes them get what they want sooner, sod the supermarkets telling us what we can and can’t do , only brainwash you to make what they want ,

I've had more for barren Mule theaves in rugby today than I paid for them, Softened the blow a bit!

Must have been cheap to buy. I got someone contract rear some welsh theaves for me, I sold them and have agreed to buy them back for £75, I got £85 last week for my culls!

Looking on AHDB market prices it looks like most markets hoggs are up 1p to 5p overall, only a small rise , but never the less a move in the right direction
