Christ the doom mungers where on last night. The job hardly a disaster yet, it might not be as good as last spring but it’s still ok. Yeah fuel, feed and fert have gone up and this is probably very bad for the intensive farmers but for most sheep men won’t make much difference. I personally think I’m very very lucky to be in the job I’m in, all fuel through the books so 40% saving, free heat and half our meals are meat from our own stock or swapped with others for there’s as well as a garden big enough garden to grow our own veg.

Do you mind me asking if you are buying and selling store cattle which ones (out of the whole lot) do you think are too dear?
The ones I’m selling I hope 🤞🏻
On yesterday’s trade the half meated dairy bred heifers £1000-1100. Once you get over £1200 a lot of buyers fall away but under it there’s plenty of competition. They won’t take long to get fit but that still costs and they are costing way more per kg to buy than they are worth to sell. The closer they are to killing the less per kg they need to be with £50 transport/killing costs. Each to their own

Yes I’m pretty much in the same boat as you just the only difference is I’m feeding my own not bought in
The sums are exactly the same though

Most markets today have been between 228 and 250ppk for hoggs with the exception of Ashford which averaged 259.8 on an increased entry!
Over 52s a real flier at Ashford looking at the report so @Frank-the-Wool should have had a good day.

Much better thank you!!
The export lambs are increasing significantly.
There were a few very good quality heavies, but the rest were still a struggle.

Ewes are flying with a new record for Ashford of £227.00 and a market average of over £113.00

Do abattoirs mind lambs with testicals left on them and do they grow any faster? I'm considering leaving all balls on Suffolk x lambs as a trail, lamb mid march onwards and start selling early june.

Kepak up to 575 hoggs, stand on at 350 cows this week.
Yes several trials have proven keeping lambs entire will grow faster, and they will finish off of good grass lays and get to heavier weights. It’s becoming more popular to do this and Hereford store sale now gets thousands of them with several buyers chasing them at times coming to more than the equivalent clean lambs

Several trials have shown that they will tup all yer ewes and yer neighbours if theyve gone lean an not got away in time aswell!
