What's the difference in price for store cattle going into an afu compared to normal store cattle not going into one?
Store cattle over 400kg sold in an orange market tb sale wouldnt be any less and i heard one buyer say he had stopped going to tb sales as he thought he could buy them cheaper in a normal sale. The cattle under 400kg would be less money as the afu's dont want longterm cattle . More competition selling in markets but sometimes selling direct to someone if you know the price is right is far less hassle, no transport or market fees, no getting hurt putting the tickets on and less stress all round. You dont get to show your cattle off though.

I would hazzard a guess that an older 30-40 mth slower grown beast would taste better than a 12-18mth intensively finished one but if both were hung for the same time i doubt there would be any difference in tenderness.

I’m not going to name any butchers but he wasn’t who I was thinking of…my point is supermarket beef is no different to butchers beef imo. I have noticed that buyers are now wanting the cattle a lot thicker and a lot fatter than they used to. Never could get my head around buying lean ones but I guess the housewife didn’t want fat then moaned the beef was tasteless
D Dobson got a black and white bull killed (bad leg) and we got some of the beef, it was very good. Robinsons of wingate butchered it
