It will take off replacing hipro soya and suddenly when nobody uses it they will have to do something with the mountain of waste that’s left from soy oil extraction for human consumption and silently realise it wasn’t us causing deforestation after all. Not that they would ever admit it

It needs to change before it's mainstream currently you can't feed dead insects in the diet so they have to be bred on farm and fed live there's no decent way of feeding yet apart from walking around with a bucket chucking them on the floor, from what I've heard it's a pain and you'd struggle to make enough on farm to replace all of the soya

Pigs are true Omnivores and will eat anything except a Donkey from what I have been told. They are very good at cleaning up Humans as well or so they said in parts of Italy!

Insects are very high in protein and surprisingly easy to breed and multiply, you only have to look at the Maggots on a Struck sheep.

Pigs and Poultry should be used for consuming protein from meat sources, providing that any feed is from separate mills.

Insect production currently too expensive. No doubt it'll come down eventually, or at least in relative terms compared to rising protein prices.

Before FMD 2001 when the poor old Pig farmers at Heddon on the Wall got the blame for the disease, there were many well run Swill feeders.
I suppose the modern equivalent is an AD plant, but reading the comments about land spreading digestate and sewage sludge, the better option for food waste would be to handle it correctly and use it as a feed for Omnivores.

I agree it is unlikely to happen, however insects are very high in protein and could potentially be an effective substitute for Soya and not destroy and Rain forests.

Pigs in the wild eat worms and grubs so there’s no problem there. In Africa and Asia insects are eaten widely by humans. Crickets are eaten by millions. I wonder how many insects are consumed by grazing animals every day?

They only eat them because theve got nowt else to eat. Grazing animals eat grass.....................simple.

Until the last 100 years or so eating something because that’s all there was was life for most people on the planet. Looking at the state the majority have become in the last twenty years or so through having all this choice of processed Shyte I would say is as good an advert for going back to it as anything

Any of you folks use Dumfries Mart, how the heck anybody finds it I just don’t know, is it some secret society. After three laps of Dumfries and checking out the High School, the Station and a few dodgy looking streets I had to ask a police van. Usually marts are signposted pretty well as most farmers get a sweat on when there’s a few roundabouts and such. Not a single sign or even a clue as to its whereabouts, don’t think I will even remember how to find it again if I’m ever tempted to that is

Cannot get a price for deadweight lambs next week as the slaughter company's are expecting lamb prices to drop sharply on Monday morning in livestock markets!

Prices are already £10/20 head less than 12 months ago + add on £30 head in increased input prices per lamb on 12 months ago so at least £40 head less in real terms on 12 months ago so its quite clear what is very likely going to happen within 12/18/24 months from now if they carry on trying to force farm gate prices downwards!

Some marts are very backward, lack of internal signs as well some places. You get the feeling that if you're not in the know, you don't count.
