My cousin just got a job on a farm , thick end of 30k plus a house , their sheep must give birth to solid gold lambs.
In this part of the country you can easily be looking at£1600/ £2000 month rent now on a 3/4 bed farmhouse/ cottage so the only way you are likely to attract good staff and keep them if not very local is to offer free accom with the job.

You have to have them doing very profitable work to give them a house worth 2k month ! Id just tske the two k and cut back 😂

@gone up the hill what you reckon about the flying trade hoggs averaging a staggering 255ppk !!!??? 💪💪💪🤙
Ha ha i think the sheep auctioneer at that market is living either in cloud cuckoo land or in 1922 and not 2022!

No two ways about it current hogg and spring lamb prices are very poor for this time of year!

Few would have been happy selling prime hoggs 12 months ago in May for £90 head or spring lambs at £100 head but in real terms with input inflation like we have had/ are getting that is the net prices in real terms we are getting today !

I cannot see how these prices are anyway sustainable for long unless input prices sharply drop which is very unlikely to happen!

What are people's views on Frome markets new commision cap announced today for prime/ cull cattle and their new loyalty scheme for sellers of prime/ cull cattle if you buy so many store or stirk cattle from the market each year??
Trying to get my head around this . Are you sayin that if they buy their stores from the market and sell them back in as prime then you get some sort of commission cap ?

Details on Frome markets FB page.

But basically all prime/ cull cattle comm is capped at £35 head and if you buy more than 50 store cattle/ stirks or calves in a year from the market and sell more than 50 prime/cull or store cattle a year at the market they will take £5 head off the prime/cull or store cattle comm you pay as well.

( that is how i read it )

Seems good idea and very fair/ attractive … after all why shouldn’t loyal market goers be rewarded ?

It might be more now but we've go it on contract.
How long will that keep until it goes off

Interesting ....bit tough on the suckler boys who will possibly be putting better cattle in the prime but never buying out of the stores 🤷‍♂️
Not a criticism but just an observation .
A lot of cattle come up here from Frome !

Very much a dairy area.

But you are correct it is a bit unfair on suckler producers who sell store/ cull or prime animals at the market!

They ought to extend the £5 head off loyalty scheme to include HB suckled cattle if you sell 50 head ( be that store/ prime or cull cattle in total ) as well .
