Hi, it was suggested on another thread that it would be good to be able to link bee keepers and landowners/farmers together to provide more opportunities for bees to be sited on farms that support beekeeping and that this was the best section for it.
I know many beekeepers dont move in "farming circles" so find it hard to find an out apiary site and having spoken to farmers and landowners I know many have thought about having bees on their land but dont know a beekeeper and dont have the time etc. to take it up themselves.
So I thought I would start it off:
I am a beekeeper based in the east midlands and due to ever expanding numbers of bees and year on year changes in available forage I am always on the look out for new sites. I am experienced and have worked professionally as a beekeeper and I have full public liability insurance for beekeeping.
I would be really interested in hearing from anyone in the Lincs/notts/Leics areas who has a site they may consider having bees on.
This could be a permanent spot with the bees remaining there year round and over wintering there. Or a temporary site specifically for the flowering of a particular crop/cover crop.
Crops that I would be interested in east mids include:
-OSR
-Beans
-Borage (happily travel outside of east mids for this)
-Top fruit
-Cover crops such as phacelia, buckwheat or willing to try any flowering ones.
- wild flower meadows, deciduous woodland (esp lime, sycamore, chestnut etc.)
Or any area rich in flora.
I would also be really interested and willing to travel nationally in UK for access to areas that have a good amount heather if any upland farmers would be interested in having me.
Thanks for the opportunity to post this and as mentioned on the other thread I will pass on TFF to other beekeepers and hopefully keep this thread going and hopefully we can make some good connections that benefit everyone.
