Had a letter this morning.
Later starting dates to normal due to later maturing crop.
Could be interesting for anybody growing beet on sticky land that wants to get a crop of wheat in after lifting!

Newark 4th October
Bury 4th October
Wissington 6th October
Cantley 11th October

What are you going to grow instead?
Couple of days ago B.S still looking for new growers / existing growers to take on additional quota for next year. Must be quite a few like yourself packing it up. If they paid a better price then they wouldn't need to seek additional tonnage to replace those packing it up.

I really don't know what to grow instead but beet certainly don't fit with an ultra low disturbance system. On our lighter land the beet don't yield well but the following wheat can, on heavy land the beet do well but the next two crops don't!!

With many growers taking a holiday, quitting and this year's crop struggling after a dull June it's going to be a short campaign.

I haven't heard the uptake for next year yet. I'm hopefully BS will be short as it'll show farmers are taking action and not just talking about it. If they get all their beet at £22/t they'll be laughing their heads off
