Beet growers have a neonic seed treatment for 2021

I don't grow beet, I just think its a bit sickening for the fodder lads, and I think the way BS treat their growers is nothing short of scandalous.
Something has just dawned on me, no flowering crops for 22 months following drilling! Is there a definitive list as what is classed as a flowering crop or does that include cereals by default. Zodaks growth stage refers to anethesis as when the flower on the plant is fully open, thus wheat as a flowering crop.
Can someone please put a reference as to what is meant as a flowering crop or I have interpreted the wording wrong.
Otherwise I think serious phone calls on Monday by the look of things.

Wheat can’t be included, it must be physically flowering with petals I’d say? Like, potatoes, peas, linseed, mustard. What the hell could you grow if you couldn’t put wheat in for two years?

Need to think about the effect on environmental schemes as some of the options might not be suitable if the land has grown beet 22 months prior. ? AB15 etc

Well I’m thankful for small mercies. Maybe we are turning a corner.
Thanks to all who worked hard to achieve this. Well done.[/QUOTE

After neonics were on rape seed there was one autumn a small number of crops were planted with neonic treated seed My neighbours had some but it was useless against the csfb Will the beet seed be the same?

Different pest to CSFB on rape. In beet the target pest is aphid landing on beet plant ingesting some insecticide and dieing. No expected resistance to the insecticide. In the rape crop four years ago the weight of CSFB adults killed the plants. The slight difficulty is the three viruses affecting beet one is a non persistent virus thus the method of transfer means the seed treatment does not control the aphid sufficiently quickly. But of course only time will tell.

Looking at the wording it is only playing into the hands of Monibot etc. The conditions/ restrictions does not seem to make sense or very vague and open to your opinions, is this the best the Beet industry can come up with! I am having to play by the rules i have a landlord trying to get myself out of a tenancy, until further notice it appears i shall have to forego the neonic seed treatment, although shall i be able to claim of the virus yellows compensation package? Decisions, decisions, 2021 probably last crop now!

BS are sending out new seed order forms to add it if you want.
I can see another fiasco around the corner with growers getting different varieties to the ones they ordered first time around like a couple of years ago when a order form was pointless and they just sent what ever was at the front of the pile i the ware house.

Would it not be easier to say all seed on orders already placed will be treated with cruiser and anyone not wishing to use it is to fill in a new order. It would save a lot of time a i cant imagine there'll be many who wont want it.

Patience until after the weekend I posted on the other thread the devil will be in the detail. Additional details will become available but I am assuming BS and NFUSugar were keen to get the headline news about the approval out to growers. Next week specifics regarding the approval will be notified and provide clarity for individual growers.

sugar beet growers who use the seed treatment who have beehives should get their pollen tested for neonic residue
then when it is found to not show up in the bees publish the results

i have not seen a singe report of bee pollen having neonic residue where the rape seed was treated
i know the pollen was collected from bee hives round here in past years

sugar beet next to osr would be good places to check

if the pollen contains neonics then we know there can be a problem but as i stated above not seen any research published
witout the use of neonic sprays these cannot cross contaminate the results

There is also a requirement not to grow maize as it has gutation where sap is exuded from leaves in certain circumstances
