Ironically my best beet last year was drilled 1st week of March.
B*gger!
The later drilled beet towards the end of March got hammered with virus yellows, well at least if it happens this year it wll be covered.

I sincerely hope that there are questions being asked of Rothamstead as to the day by day accumulation of cold during this cold snap(if the science is that simple??!!)

Would be a bit of a joke if come 1st March they state 'it was cold enough by 10th Feb that we could not trigger the neonics' but wasted the subsequent 2 weeks awaiting a foregone conclusion-and an opportunity to get the undressed seed onto farm.

I suppose the decision still cannot be made until all of the data from February has been reviewed.

Email today asking if we want to swap back to non- neonic seed. I don’t know what to do🤔 We wouldn’t normally start drilling beet until the last wk in March on the Fen.

Just had this very conversation with agronomist and beet fields woman.
Think I am going to swap back due to the possibility of not getting neo's due to the cold weather.
The chance of getting neo's is slipping away.
Then having to wait till the end of March just to get delivered standard seed. :banghead:
I can normally drill at the start of March.
