Concur. I have ventured onto Twitter for the first and possibly last time to make posts. Once my daughter explained what to do! Most odd form of communication. Anyway I have asked in my posts what about imports from countries using neonics and the morals of us all exporting our environmental issues. Judging by a reply or two that is irrelevant. Ah well.
social media is incredible... "twitter is using you, you are not using twitter"
You only have to pick up your partners phone and look at the same website/facebook group etc and you see completely different results.

Now imagine you are a farmer or bee activist trying to have a rational conversation on twitter

YB. For the first time I have ventured onto Twitter. Fascinating. You can take a horse to water but not make it drink is the answer I fear to you idea to educate the anti neonic brigade.

Going to be more difficult if the Labour Party have decided to politicize the issue and take a negative stance. I now consider that neonics have gone and that is it. Ah well.
If flowering crops are not grown the baby will be flushed down the toilet
No pest control No nector no bees or other insects

The reality is that all the industry and individual can do is engage. Correct and highlight inaccuracies. Provide evidence. Be patient and trust the common sense system does prevail.

Hahaha common sense in this day and age. Look at all the headlines the other day. Banned in the EU allowed in the UK, despite us being nearly the last to issue the temp exemption they forgot to mention that part.

Yes, but that misconception was corrected by a Defra statement and on Twitter several folk tweeted to that effect to the journalist from Guardian and Independent and to Caroline Lucas Green MP. Thus although may not matter there is evidence in the threads of correction. I do find this social media thing all very odd.

social media has trained every one to react quickly and then forget very quickly

we as an industry have to constantly reenforce the good practice and the sensible solutions and not get deflected by rubish blowing in the wind

if people had had a vote in 2019 about the use of gm in any production system the general public would have not allowed the process that developed the covid vaccines using gm technology
the regulatory system allowed them to do the research and we now have a vaccine in less than 12 months from the genetic id of the covid 19

the public will now forget that all gm technology was bad before 2019

we have to win the debate based on the facts

It’s also worth pointing out that many of these ignorant people apply them as flea treatments to dogs..... who then roll and sh!t in areas where flowers grow......

This article sums it up well

'The research found fipronil in 99% of samples from 20 rivers and the average level of one particularly toxic breakdown product of the pesticide was 38 times above the safety limit. Fipronil and another nerve agent called imidacloprid that was found in the rivers have been banned from use on farms for some years. There are about 10 million dogs and 11 million cats in the UK, with an estimated 80% receiving flea treatments, whether needed or not. The researchers said the blanket use of flea treatments should be discouraged and that new regulation is needed. Currently, the flea treatments are approved without an assessment of environmental damage.'

It’s really noticeable how it uses algorithms to make people’s views stronger. People who 4 years ago may have been slightly to the right politically are now far more extreme and it goes for the left too.

exactly... you can see how it works. Its had an effect on you and me both. Best thing I did was turn notifications off... its far too addictive when It keeps telling you stuff you want to hear!
The neonic/bee debate is 2 groups arguing with themselves and no rational discussion to be had. Nobody needs or wants to hear the facts.

Within the past couple of hours the EU has threatened retribution upon the UK for allowing our farmers to utilize said product for the forthcoming planting season The product being neonic seed treatment. This is a classic EU stich up,anger towards the UK.Stuff them we should have left on WTO terms then these issues would not occur.

How would that work? There are plenty of other EU countries who have licensed it, and we import about 50% of our sugar anyway?
