Because the name 'Uncle Ben' was previously used as a racial slur against certain demographics in some parts of the world and the owners of the brand now realise it's not appropriate to call their product after a fairly nasty insult. As a WASP, I am fortunate that there are very few names used against me or my ancestors, so it is difficult to understand how offensive that sort of things can be, but I'd like to think we all have enough empathy to respect those who are not as lucky.

Granny Smith apples are ageist and sexist-will be rebranded as "Life Experienced LGBTQBAME fruit"

Oh sh!t "fruit" is also a derogatory term for sections of the LGBTQ community! Make that "Lise experience LGBTQBAME vegan foodstuff"

Anyone asking for Blackberries, greengages, redcurrants, blueberry muffins or oranges will be required to attend Diversity training!

However, factory produced "foodstuffs" that have no connection with animals or livestock can still be called bacon, sausages burgers steaks etc.

Actually I think the derogatory term is Uncle Tom this derived from the book Uncle Tom’s Cabin. An Uncle Tom being an insult for an overly subservient black man basically a class traitor. Although Uncle Bens Rice did used to have a picture of a jolly negro on the box.

I assume the comment is based on the frequent bias against English people expressed on here. Sublime though it may be, it's pretty clear but then we are used to it.
