Good evening Sir's / Ma'am's,

I have recently left the forces after a 25yr career and gained an interest in metal detecting whilst training soldiers to use them to locate IEDs. I have now settled in Berkshire and I am hoping to make contact with any kind farmers around the south of England who would entertain the possibility of allowing me access to any part of their land. Sadly it is very difficult to obtain permission due to the amount of undesirables running around the country giving the hobby a bad name (night hawkers and the like), but rest-assured I am not one of them, I see myself as an ambassador to the hobby raising the trust in responsible detecting. I am only requesting private permission as I am sure you don't need a platoon of people traipsing around the place. I am a friendly helpful chap and more than willing to try and locate any lost items to 'earn my permission'. Am fully insured with the NCMD and would be as inconspicuous as possible, during the activity. I understand what behaviour is required around a working farm and safety around animals (I help look after 7 horses every weekend). I understand peoples wish to remain private and this shall form part of the covenant between us and any finds will be presented for inspection at the close of activity. I am open to be interviewed prior to any permission being granted. Many thanks for your time, Kind regards.

Hi JCM, after reading that I think I should completely give up to be honest, normal people cant compete with money. Although, they do need an acreage of 70+ for it to be viable to them, so if there are any kind farmers with small bits of land available to detect on 'Im free' as Mr Humphries would say.

Haha, I bet they do. Yeah, will have a drive round and ask about - hopefully one or two will have something available around Berkshire / Hampshire. Enjoy the weekend
