Best 12 ton grain trailer to buy?

Well, I like my Smyth trailers, very well made, good spec's and when I bought them very cheap
Got a 12 ton smyth this spring. Not done a lot with it yet but like it so far. Seems quite a "neat" trailer, Ie rams for the back door are tucked well in so won't catch on anything etc. Thing that put me off Bailey is the back door doesn't have any hooks to hold it shut. Just relying on the hydrauic pressure in the rams. Neighbour has one and whenever he's got grain in it he has to use bolts to hold the boor shut. Admittedly it has a bit of age on it now.

I can happily fill my Bailey trailers, drop them off the tractor and leave them for six months and come back without an issue of keeping the grain in.

I like the idea of hooks, but haven’t found the need for them.

Local dealer has a new marshall stood in his yard, they look a good trailer, got their act together.
To be fair to marshall for a long time for a cheap lightweight trailer you couldn't really complain other than the paint, but even then plenty others were as bad. Realistically they weren't designing a heavy use trailer. Times move on and prices go up and maybe they didn't buck their ideas up quick enough. I'd be very surprised if many manufacturers shot blast every trailer part before they paint them unless they are considerably dearer. A lot of the poor paint isn't just metal prep its top coat not adhering to primer.

Hi looking to buy a new12 ton grain trailer, availability might be a problem right now,
Needs to have auto door, sprung drawbar, and oil and air brakes.
I know a Stewart is probably best, budget won't go there, what's the best of the rest in case I'm missing something.
Tia.
Twin ram will only be more stable at full extension, and not by much at that. At all other points it will make no difference. In fact, I would think the extra bracing you need for a single ram will make the body stiffer and so more stable.

If stability on slopes while tipping is an issue then I've seen trailers with a set of rams that clamp down onto the axles and make them rigid.

I bought a new 12t Bailey in April. Looks pretty strong, has a hydraulic valve to keep the the tailgate shut (which seems to work), gets pressure washed with a turbo nozzle most days and is still green. All in all, happy with it so far. I’ll give you an update in 15 years time.

I've no direct experience but my neighbour runs a fleet of 18ton Herrons, silage sides never off, cart everything with them, muck, silage, woodchips, grain.
They work hard for him and they seem to stand up very well.
He bought more Herrons last time which says to me they must be ok.

as previously said, if you are in aberdeenshire why not just get a marshall and be done with it? nothing wrong with them imo, and this kind of mid range farmer trailer is their specialty.
The Drt and Marshall are chalk and cheese on quality , there was a video doing the rounds on social media of a trailer on stand at a show, and someone had gone underneath to film the welds, and it was shocking the mess it was

im not saying they are the best of the best, but there is way too much trailer snobbery out there imo. marshall and indeed fleming make perfectly good trailers, and for the money you pay they are hard to fault. yes there are better out there but they need to be significantly better to justify the 10%-50% premium. plenty of ancient marshall trailers still doing the rounds.

That must be a fairly recent thing, it's good to see that they are improving. I see that video was only uploaded today......

pretty sure that’s been the case for a long time from looking round the factory in the past. Happy to be wrong. That video was uploaded as last year during lockdown they did a kind of show for a whole week and focus on individual ranges and anticipated being open for visits this year and is this years version

What about other makes like Easterby,West,Redrock etc etc anyone got good things to say about the not so common ones?
be hard pushed to find a bad trailer nowadays. Harry west are good though fairly light weight, redrock used to be built like a brick sh**house but not sure on the newer ones. AW, Richard western, NC all good too. Probably over half the silage outfits round here run Richard western sf12 trailers.
