Good evening all,
I’m currently contemplating what to get as a 160 hp tractor with 50 kph and pre Adblue. I’m looking at a Massey Ferguson 6480 or a Deutz M420. I know they are getting around 8-10 years old now, but I will only be looking at low hour and very well looked after ones. Do you have any recommendations of what I should look out for? I.E Syncro or Perkins engine etc?
Sorry should say 6480 in poll.
Best Regards.

6480 is 150bhp? i imagine a tier 3 6480 (post 2007 ish) would be a decent buy now as there at that age where there kind of a cheap as they ever get,

i got a 6465 in 2016 and it worth as much now as i paid for it then not done loads of hours though!

M620,6 pot?

We have one, basic but does the job.Make sure the prop shaft is greased where it slides on the splines into the transmission.

Make sure any you look at aren’t seized.
I agree. A m620 more comparable to a mf 6480.

I would buy the Massey everytime. We have a m620 on mixer wagon. It's fine for that job, but it's a pig on the road. Synchro for third gears gone on it. Has rubbish brakes and awful suspension. It gets let of the leash a couple times per year to cart silage and its normally lucky me that gets lumped with driving it.

It's also really light on the front. Couldn't get enough weights on front when I had 5f plough on it.

What was the problem with them? I thought a deutz would be a decent enough tractor
A lot of electical and sensor trouble i belive, and the backup from the dealer was crap the sons was worse of the two.
A near neighbour has ran deutz since the mid 80s and the old ones were very good (hes still got 3) he had two modern ones a 160hp vario and a 280hp one. They were horrific the big one diddnt even reach 1000 hrs. He now runs two fendts as mainline tractors. Of the later deutz he has a early m620 thats been decent. @i dont belief it

M620 is about 168 hp in standard tune with m+ software. I was always a MF person. But since I've been using Deutz, they are a far better tractors, and higher spec, a lot cheaper to run as well. My first Deutz Agrotron 155 would use half the fuel of a MF 6280, same silage trailer, same road run. MF 40k box and Deutz 55k box. The ZF box in a m620 is a 60k box, but restricted to 55k.

Why a post 2007 one? I have in mind 2010-2012. Aren't they any good? :scratchhead:

Deutz do look like they have a rather short wheel base compared to the Massey. (y)
