‘‘Twas a p Reg to be fair I had watched the fast and the furious on repeat and truly believed go faster stripes and dropping the clutch with the Rev limiter bouncing was how it’s done. Poor thing must have looked like I’d crashed in Halfords neon lights in the footwell and all! Remember coming out of motorworld proud as punch with my new subwoofer but the boot was to small so I cut it in half with a reciprocating saw ?

Just get something modern with a good Ncap score.
Our kids had whatever old cars were cheap, Polo, Clio, etc and graduated to Golfs.
They have all of course decided they want better, since they have had jobs and their own money, and have bought Tucson, Qashqai, Kuga, in spite of my protestations about the waste of money.
Two weeks ago the youngest was hit head on, at a combined 90mph, by an idiot who swerved right onto her side of the road, either asleep or texting I suspect. Her Qashqai was totalled, and has creases in every panel and the front smashed to fkdom-come, and she has been in and out of doctors ever since, with severe bruising and seat belt injuries.
The moral of all this is that I actually believe if she'd been in the old Polo, Rose would now be dead.
Buy wisely and keep them safe, modern cars are designed and built with safety systems, to keep you alive when the worst happens, the old pieces of shite that our generation welded and patched up were not.

Buy the most modern, safest car car you can find for the budget.

One of my kids was in a passanger in an Audi A2 that hit a tree at 40mph (according to the black box), they both walked away from the accident. Not nice getting a phonecall from the police at 2am, it’s the only time I’ve ever had a panic attack when I thought what could have happened.

Car wise - Ford Fiesta or Alfa Mito

Insurance will be the driver if you excuse the pun, ended up with a Seat Mii here for eldest daughter simply because I couldn't find anything cheaper to insure. Surprisingly fun to drive when I take it out.

My nephew is looking to buy his first car in next few months when he's passed his test and is now wondering what car to get.
Ive suggested a little 4x4 like Freelander, safer on country roads as better visability, and better suited for dealing with potholes, floods and snow
Budget is around £4k
Also must have "street cred!"
Suggestions please
Don't mess about, get him an evo VI or VII! Fantastic 4x4 (has three traction settings snow, gravel and tarmac), built like a tank and would have the highest street cred rating in a pack of top trumps!

When it comes to the insurance just constantly keep telling yourself "I'm a farmer, I was never going to retire anyway!"

Ford fiesta , vauxhall corsa, ect with 1.4 or less get one for £1000 or under cheap for parts cheap for insurance and won't matter about a few dent's and scrapes along the way, as for looking good he will look better than his mates who have nothing

Not nice.
Better than a knock at the door though. :(

Yes, l loved that 405,had a couple of them, bad axle on them, great for taking the wee girlfriend a drive around the countryside just to see where that road leads. Great days. Had a friend who had a Ford escorts 1.6 ghia. Its was a babe magnet at yfc.
