Best 2nd hand loader tractor for a livestock farm.

I love the alpine 37 series from MF ideal livestock tractor, the only problem was it was 10k dearer than the 47 series now thinking 37 wf maybe , still think I'll have to have a sit down after hearing the price.
What make of loader have you on it? The new one has an integrated joystick which I like.
Yeah I know tell me about I like my creature comforts as well which always adds a stack of cash on as well...

I don't feel like we've helped OP much 🤣 he was probably looking for a definite answer 🤣

I have a 4708 which is my big field tractor and I have a farmall 85A loader yard tractor , I find the 4708 to big and clumsy in the yard so wanted a 3708 as a replacement for the 85A, I didn't change because of the extra price tag .
The 3708 is a more compact but heavier tractor than the 4708 and also a better shape for yard work / sheds , it also has a FPT engine which I would prefer. If on a unlimited budget it's definitely what I would choose.
I've had a good look round for a replacement for the farmall 85 and can't find the right tractor/ dealer , so may price a 3708 wf and maybe add weights, not the perfect solution.

No,its all good. Good to hear as many views as possible. But i will probably get to the stage when it will be jfdi. Even new stuff can go wrong. 5 month old bought brand new Yamaha quad back to the dealers for a new fuel pump yesterday. Let me down on the side of the road.First time thats happened,ive had 5 or 6 of them.

I’ve got a Valtra 113 not bad for a loader tractor probably big enough really
John Bownes often has such like in or Jordan at Langwathby will find you something like that
 
Thats what im thinking.There arent many around,and if they are,they have about 10,000 hours on. Robsons at Thirsk had a low houred 3 year old one in,but it was an A,engine made in China kind of put me off. I can find an Arion430,a Massey 5612,a Maxum 125,JD 6130M,or NH T140.All roughly same price with 2000-5500 hours on,and from 5 to 8 years old.
Our old N103 is for sale at Crickly hill tractors in Kent the hours are correct .
 
It's funny how size is relative. We have a little IH B250 which is sitting outside the window waiting for haymaking duties. It looked tiny until I pulled out the T20 for a bit of tinkering and parked them side-by-side. Now the IH looks quite solid and chunky.
I remember dad yelling me off for using the 65hp Nuffield on the baler as it was too big and thirsty. He never used anything bigger than 45hp..
The same is true of cars. I had a Viva HC which I thought looked good when I was 19 and had a big bonnet and boot for a family car. I saw one in Lidls the other day and it looked tiny and tinny compared to all the modern compact cars around it

Morris Mini van drove past the other day. Looked so small. Was my transport as a teenager.
Thought to myself, bloody hell, I must have been good, could pull birds in that :D :D :D
Coincidentally that might just have included a close relative of the OP of this thread ;)

Yep, the cars of my youth look like little dinky cars today!

Even the big cars like Rover 100s, Austin Westminsters and Jag 3.4s look small next to modern cars. As for Minis, Austin A35s and as you say Vauxhall Vivas they all look so low and narrow compared to todays.

Little wonder that the roads are more congested and parking spots so tight. Also country roads that allowed two cars to pass each other easily fifty years ago, or even twenty five years ago, are now too narrow for todays vehicles.

And especially so when the ubiquitous black Chelsea tractor with a hatchet faced young woman driving far too fast on the ‘must get to’ school run, meets Wayne Lame Brain using his mobile phone while piloting a 200hp John Deere pulling a triple axle slurry tanker at 50kph.

You can’t turn back the clock but why the hell do they build every new model longer wider and higher than the previous one?
The ‘safety’ factor isn’t really an excuse when you read that the tiny little Smart car is one of the safest vehicles on the road, and often comes off better against far bigger and heavier cars.

Anyway, rant over: I’m off to spend £120 to half fill the Range Rover with petrol.

All you have to do is look at the vw golf. Each model seems to get a bit bigger

Some of the present day ‘Mini’ estates are enormous things, about the size of the original Range Rover in 1970 I would guess.
Some of the double cab pick ups are now so enormous that you almost need a step ladder to clamber in, and they take up a bay and a half of retail park spaces. It’s getting very silly.

:unsure: Will have to think about that one...........................or ask our Kate next time i see her :). A mini van was my first mode of transport to Kirkley Hall college in 1976. Was hot in June that year and got hotter.Can remember taking some fellow students from there to the Hoppings on the Town Moor with a van full. Good times! Think they start this weekend so the same time in June.

It does get my back up how much disrespect the 100hp tractor gets these days. Most brand don't seem to get a rat's arse about them so you end up with CNH paying someone else to make their farmall and New Holland equivalent. John Deere stopped making the 5R which just shows how little they care. Class gets their small tractors made in a Italy factory.
Finding a tractor under 2.5m high and 1.8m wide is like finding hens teeth unless you want a vineyard tractor...

As far as finding a second hand tractor it's the same as any tractor regardless of size and brand it's all about dealer back up and the state of the tractor.

They dropped the 5R because it wasn’t very good. The SWB 6M that replaced it is a ‘proper’ tractor.

How come you need such a physically small tractor? A 6100M is a fine machine and capable of heavy work

Simply shed and yard restrictions.
I've managed to replace some of them but still pretty tight.
