To get extra hight for ground clearance and road speed
Extra height and speed compared to what other size?
All of these sizes will have similar heights, the differences in ground clearance and road speed won't be noticeable

My preference for an all round tyre is the 580/70r38 which if you delve into Kleber's technical data would give you an extra 1mm of ground clearance and an extra 0.24km/h over their 520/85r38.

Am i right in sayin that the 65 70 85 means the percentage of width is sidewall height as in 70% of 580 is 406 mm and 85% of 520 is 442mm or is that wrong. Its way i always thought it was worked out?

that's used to be my understanding but now I just go by the charts. seen and drove many tracotrs with different profile tires but appartently match up-70 series back 65 series front, and there was not addidional wind up on the 4wd, so just go with the charts but different makes have different tolerances

In theory that's correct but in reality it doesn't work like that. Sticking with Kleber, because I've got the charts in front of me. Their 520/85r38 has a diameter of 1838mm and a rolling circumference of 5432mm. Their 580/70r38 has a diameter of 1849mm and a rolling circumference of 5478mm.
Even between manufacturers there won't be any significant differences in height and I would prioritise in field performance every time.

When 70% profile tyres were introduced ,they were a bit economical with the truth. Most are nearer to 75% to get the correct rolling circumference.

60 and 65 profile tyres match up very well mathmatically to their 85% equivalent.e.g

650/60 = 390
600/65 = 390
557/70 = 390
520/75 = 390
460/85 = 391
