have a mchale 5500, but the intake of the kuhn would be very hard to beat. biggest downside to the mchale is the intake is poor in lght crops or wet crops i find, but then welgar is the same intake.
Thank you. It sounds as though the message i'm getting is the McHale, Agco and Kuhn are all good equipment. It depends on the service / support and the financing.

Between the Mchale and Kuhn baler for me. The Mchale would be first choice. Really a good baler and we do silage. Where we have done drier materials it really does an excellent job.
This is helpful. Are there any parts which you need to typically watch out for? Keep spares? Any recommended tips for generally taking care? Thank you

If you want a no hassle baler go with the Kuhn. Netter system is brilliant and doesn’t give any bother. Think I may have been out of the seat 3 times in 5k bales. You can disengage the rotor with the belts or rollers still going so you can net and kick out the bale if you block It when it’s nearly full. could be better now but a lot of folk complain about Mchase netter system sometimes being temperamental.

Thank you. This is helpful. We're talking to McHale and Kuhn and trying to base our decisions on research and people's first hand experience. Obviously we want to keep the equipment uniformity as close as possible so we need to get this right. It's the round baler with the reliability and dependability of a Toyota Land Cruiser we need.

You just say a round baler.

Belts or fixed chamber? Would influence peoples opinions.

Personally we run a 2011 McHale v660. Done over 50k bales now. Dealer never been out to it. Sensors and bearings fairly generic and can be sourced easily.

Great backup direct from McHale factory if you have a issue.

Grease grease grease and make sure the self oiling container stays full. We have the fixed chamber version of the Mchale. Check tension of chains. Dont try and make bales to heavy. Puts unnecessary strain on everything. We did first of chains on 12k bales. Run them to about 40k bales before replacing. Minimal breakages till there. Did demo the Mchale and Kuhn belt baler. Have to say I have to agree with some statements on here that the Kuhn has a better pickup and rotor intake. Also like the belt system more. Backup is a big question so make sure the baler you buy has good backup and keep parts on hand.

Thank you everyone. We're now in touch with both McHale, Kuhn and MF. Will report back when we know the terms of finance, support and pricing.

depends on yer drivers skill levels
some areas used to run class roller balers simple made a bale almost bomb proof and unskilled drivers could use them
why rounds if carting stacking etc etc would not big squares be better. or even pit silage
