Best Boots For Using a Spade.

A friend of mine does quite a lot of digging soil samples on strong land, which is the best pair of lace up boots ?
Metal support in the sole would be good. Options please?

Choice of spade migh be more relevant. I'd choose my little Bulldog planting spade bought for planting trees but used for so much more. Nice pointy blade and strong. Used it for removing ragwort yesterday and as a lever before that.

Used to have some old metal boot savers knocking around here. Don't really know what they're called but they're metal slips held on with straps to protect the sole of the boot.

Meindl Buthan are about the best allround boot you will find. Used to be the Meidnl Douve but they changed the soles to the foam type. If you are wrecking boots, when they are new fill the arch with a hard plastic moulded on. When it eventuality when it fails and comes off you simply stick a new one on, boots last forever.

As others have said, kick plates on spades make a huge difference. Something as simple as a nail welded on will stop a lot of damage.
