Best brand of chainsaw to buy

I have a 3120xp with a 42" bar I use for milling, would be a horrible thing to use for felling and even cross cutting would be a fairly unpleasant experience with it. Much better with a 661 or 395xp. A 36" bar must be on the upper limit or even over the limit of being balanced on a 661?

I have a 30" bar on my 395xp and a 25" bar on my 288XP and the 288XP feels about right balance wise.

The 661 was a friend who uses it nearly every day and has multiple bars..I think it was on a lighter than standard bar .He did tell me that these populars were so huge
that he felt safer using that size bar.He took the tension out of the middle of the trees first before placing them but said it was still interesting.
I run a husq390 on 24" and a stihl 460 on 20" for general farm use and find them
both well balanced.

I don't know about best but had this delivered from Italy this morning, It's an OleoMac GST 250. A 25 cc 10" bar top handle. No one would sell me one in the UK, Great cos it saved me over £140. Used it this afternoon,to do a bit of hedge laying. Quite impressed.

It was listed on eBay, £211 and £17 postage, took about a week longer to arrive than they stated. My thoughts were extra customs charges.but no, guess if I had sent my VAT number , I could have had it even cheaper.

Thats cheap postage from Italy ,,some gready beggers on Ebay want £25 to post with in the uk ,,seen a few big Husky saws on ebay from Russia for not much postage

I hear good things bout Echo saw and their warranty if bought domestically.

I've Echo battery saw, Iirc it has 4 year warranty, very powerful and decent battery life. Cut 20m³ of trunks to 40cm logs on 4 charges. My ucle swears on Stihl and Husqvarna and he's somewhat of a professional. Also said my Echo is great for near home use.

I have the Makita, it's great. If you already have a good cordless drill (Makita, de Walt, others) then see if they do a matching chainsaw.

Battery is much better than petrol for 99% of users.

rubbish. for hedging and pruning maybe, but a battery saw pulling an 18" bar?

need 50cc absolute minimum on 18". makita ea5600f is a good budget option

they can both run either. I had a 9 tooth 3/8 sprocket on my 3120 before it got nicked. absolute animal, made my mates ms880 running .404 look stupid

395s are 3/8 standard though

I was very sceptical when I bought a Hyundai but after 3 years of fairly regular abuse it’s still going strong. Could buy 3or4 of them for the price of similar husky or Stihl and when it gets stolen or broken I wouldn’t be too concerned ! I did buy a stihl 2in1 sharpener and the ability to keep the chain razor sharp makes all the difference
