I'm looking for a chop saw for both wood and metal, able to cut 4x2 timber and perhaps 2 inch angle steel. I was looking at Evolution Rage models but they seem to have mixed revues, particularly motor life. Price around £100 if possible, any recommendations ?

I think the evolution would struggle to cut 2 inch angle steel ,,it rotates to fast ,,the Raptor is the steel cut of model but its £250 ish
The Rage blades are desinged to cut through wood with an od nail ,it will cut thin aluminum ,,I wouldnt risk it it on 3mm angle ,too fast and too much heat

I've an Evolution Raptor and it cuts anything you can get in the vice. Cut 100mm 10mm wall box no problem, 2" 6mm angle steel is no bother to it.
Mine is on its 3rd or 4th blade now, as Nick said a new blade is about £50
Only downside, is watch for the little saw chips it throws out when cutting, they are hot and sharp.
Its a steel cutting saw only, think the Rage is the one that does both, no experience of it.

I also have the evolution raptor, must be over 16 years old now and don’t a lot of work. I use the steel cutting discs but will cut wood also. Safety glasses are a must though!

I’ll echo @ fermerboy sentiment about very very hot chips of steel flying about.they are very very hot and seem to go everywhere.use your ppe or safety glasses at the very least.

I've got the evolution rage, does a good job on light steel, cuts flat bar and angle up to about 6mm, box up to 4mm no problem at all just doesn't like being pushed too hard. Good saw, I'd have another

I have a an evolution chop something or other as well. Brill piece of kit if out on site or about the yard. Downside for me is the price if blades and getting ones that last also i find mine quite noisey.
