Best fluid / way to stop padlocks freezing?

I've had this ball-ache.

I have a locked chain to go through every morning, it's a five minute drive from the house so I just take a bottle of hot water with me to pour over the padlock if it's frozen up. Then I drive through and lock it up again....

I just soak ours in oil, mainly to stop the fecktards tipping superglue in them which is common believe it or not around here, seems to stop them freezing too
I've had them super glued up as well. Still that's one better than them breaking in. I've even had the posts pushed over a bit, but they are 12" RSJ pushed in the ground over 4ft so the didn't get very far, but its a job to straighten them back up.

If memory serves me right “Methanol” is very useful fluid during Canadian Prairie winter months. Seem to remember it being useful if diesel got frozen and also for starting an engine at very low temperatures.
No, that’s ether to start cold engines.

I saw some the other day the guy had found some thick soft rubber type tubing and cut it into 4" pieces and had slide it over the locks, looked a good job as long as you don't live where there are bored kids I suppose.

As above, locks are on field gates , thanks.

silicon oil

A bit of 100cst will do the job or any other Silicon oil really but not too thick or it wont run in very well.
Always used to have to use the blow torch on my workshop door to get in when frosty but since i put some silicon oil in it 2 years ago no problems.

had a chain on a gate in a forestry block some muppets cut the chain like a C and had the cut on the back side of the post just by chance saw it when undoing padlock
did find thicker oils etc tended to bind up the locks after a while
but then the lighter oils tend to fall out
