what do people rate as best machine for wet straw, old haybob or a quick turn with a rake ?? Tried a swath wilter and did one field and cashed it straight away!!!
Roll it over onto fresh dry ground with a single rota rake or an old acrobat if you have one parked somewhere in the brambles! Haybobs a sod in straw because it flicks the stones against the back window or into the cab.

With the size of header today IMHO turning over with a rake is a waste of diesel.
Get it tedded out and then row back up.
You wouldn't try to dry a swath of hay by tipping it over!
I've got 3 machine's available for the job

The haybob it's never out the shed

The swathwilter it's only any good for fluffing up slightly damp rows or stuff that's been run on that just needs lifted again

The rake which is the only thing that will shift it onto fresh high stubble so the air can get through it to dry it out . The rake is the best but it also needs the right weather to go with the right machine.

This is all behind 25ft + headers in a big crop

A single rotor rake is what you need. I may have one for sale if your interested
This ^. But you have to be patient and wait for it to be dry enough to leave a fluffy swath that the air can get into after the rake. And you want to be sure the weather afterwards will let you get it baled. The more you move it the more drying out it will take if it gets wet again until tedding it out is the only option.

if you can avoid driving on swaths they dry a lot easier. Hence we chop headlands, straddle the swath with chaser/trailer and do not drive on swaths

"We bought a teagle superted last year because we had straw left in the swath, seems like we’ll be using it every year now! You can angle the gates to throw the crop one side if needs be"

  • +1 excellent for the job, and doesn't hammer the straw too much

I also bought a Teagle Super Ted for this season. It’s getting plenty of use and doing a good job.
Previously I had borrowed one for a couple of years but it was taking the P borrowing it every year.
