So do the marks not last until lambing time.

Would straight marking fluid last longer
The top picture was night before last and they were applied early October, that’s sheep marking fluid paste like scanners use etc, use a scrubbing brush to apply 👍🏻

Yeah Rappa system there

Did you apply the marks on the shoulders and legs though. I was thinking if I change colours they will still have that mark on their arse when I split them up after the New Year.

This was circa 2 weeks ago. You can still see most of the raddle marks but I can see the sire/due date stripes with ease. Also means you can prioritise feed, housing and checking to those that need it. We only check what’s due at that exact time at lambing a few times a day, everything not due then gets checked once a day. Easier to check 500/day than 1800/day.

Yeah applied with scrubbing brush. At new year the raddle marks may still be on them but I’m not a fan of crayons and harnesses etc. I remember my old neighbour saying he’d paid £7500 for a pedigree tup, he couldn’t walk 2 weeks later and only had 40 ewes to serve, crayon had rubbed his chest raw, ram got maggots days later and never worked again.

Yep that is my hope.

How long does the raddle and oil last until they are not marking ewes served. Would it last 10 days.

Cross ewes only get 40 ewes per tup so they may not be a problem but Easycares can be nearer 80 so not wanting the raddle to stop marking them and then defeat the purpose of the whole operation

I've bought plenty of Beltex tups that couldn't walk after 2 weeks but that was nothing to do with harnesses haha

4-150 (2 unshorn ram lambs) will mark for 10 days but I replenish at day 5 and also mark everything that’s raddled so I can see how groups are getting on. Had 1 group last year 102/110 served in 9 days. I knew then I could bring other farms forward by a few days with tups going in as I knew lambing would be going quicker.

Single sired the Exlana ram did 150 ewes, 130 served by day 10, he was re marked at day 5.

I used to just lamb all 600 in a oner in April and life was easy but got caught out this year not using teasers and trying to lamb 150 in February and 150 in March.

1 ewe lambed on the first of February and then nothing else for 14 days, Harbro rep will be getting a big bonus off my feed bill this year.

I know that feeling!! My January lambers didn’t start until early feb, due to raddling i knew nothing went first cycle in the drought, saved bringing them in a month earlier saving 15 bales of haylage, probably 6 bales of straw and a lot of oats 👌🏼

Standard sunflower oil and make a thick paste,
never understand why you would want to use any sort of engine oil or grease as it is full of harmful additives , would you want your dick covered in it ,
And if you are mixing said stuff don’t leave it lying around for you inspector to see it
