Best oil for raddle?

As above, what’s best to mix with raddle powder? Used olive oil last year and looking at the tups a week later I was really questioning whether I had done it at all, not a trace left.

When we used the powder I always used engine oil, my thoughts were the thicker the better. And it certainly stayed on the wool right through until shearing.

Got harnesses too but struggling to get cold weather crayons. Used all weather last year and the marks didn’t last very long at all

Didn’t even know there was different crayons I just use mate mark crayons what Evers on the shelf

Olive oil goes hard in colder weather. Did a trial a few years ago and found best to use cheaper cooking oil such as sunflower or plain vegetable oil.

Engine or gear oil here, whenever I use raddle powder. Thicker the better, it's only a carrier to carry the powder and wants to stay on the ram more than a day unless you want to be forever catching the ram up.

Doesn't every farmhouse kitchen have a bottle containing discarded oil from frying chips.

And you can save on raddle powder if you only apply raddle after 17 days, or even not at all.

Same here. But every Rudd colour! We use oil out of cooking fryer at hotel where my wife works and it does a great job. Joking aside, you do have to keep it out of the way of the dog!!

Was nettex all weather I used last year, it was pretty cold amd wet tho, got some nettex cold weather to try now, will be interesting to see the difference

Vegetable oil, never had a problem with it… 4” wide paint brush to brush it on
Always have to have it up high or one of the dogs eats it and bright red sh!ts for days

Remind me again: why do folk raddle their tups? Especially when the scanner can identify the later lambers.
